How do you people catch and move an arrow

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I never use net to catch my aros. Back to my early days of keeping aros, evry time I catch them with a net, the barbels gets damage. Usually large aros and sometimes they will jump out of the net. One of my former 30" silver aro jump out while I was trying to catch it and it hit me on the chin and it feels like someone upper cut me or something.

It's best to use a large thick plastic bad as it prevent the aros from damaging their barbels and prevent them from jumping out.

you people? what do you mean you people?

sorry, just reminded me of tropic thunder and one of the only funny parts of the movie. anyway...i would use the plastic bag like everyone else is suggesting, although the t-shirt idea does seem like it would be pretty useful too.

The plastic bag method works quite well, though I have only used it on aros under 20".

I am still trying to decide what will be the best method for moving my two 27"ers. One problem is the limited size openings the tank has that they are in.

I caught my close to 2' black aro with a large koi net the petshop loaned me and it worked fine. It was the last fish left in the tank and I'd drained the water to about 1/3 and taken everything out so I guess he knew his number was up!

I've got to move my 12" green in a months time, I'm going to use a cotton pillow case, it worked well with my big ornate.

Tropic Thunder was hilarious throughout the entire movie. your nuts!

How hard is it to catch a fish in a 8ft tank and larger? I never thought about how difficult it may in fact be.

Check out Frabill pro tech catch and release cradle system

its what i used to go pick up my new 26" aro last week

it took 2 minutes it catch, did not harm him at all

A big 'ol rubber or silicone bass net.

I used net with a container full of water. Take the fish out then immerse straightaway into the water. Be sure the mesh is very small ... i learned the hard way when i used a fishing net on large arapaimas (its head got stuck in the net ... quite a nerve recking experience). Small/fine mesh works fine.

I have tried the plastic bag method ... takes a lot longer ... the bag full of water is also very heavy ...

When i was moving the silver aros around, they did not struggle at all. Same fine mesh method. the bigger the tank the harder to catch ... usually need two people: one to hold the net and the other one to chase fish toward the scooper.

Very important to lower the water.

Bderick is very right, the size opening in the aquarium (between bracking) make catching large fish extra difficult
