How do you prefer your fish?

I prefer to buy them small and grow them out.
Since I also like to understock, my tanks look a bit ridiculous for a couple of years...

Depends, I would never again buy a baby festae, I've never had a fish that grew slower and I had 5 wild caught festaes that I power fed high protien pellets and frozen foods and one year later that were all below 5"....... But I don't like buying large fish because it seams I can never get them to "play nice" with my community's lol

i just look for specimins in the store who are in a community

I like a bit of both. Like getting small ones and growing them out. Nice to know that they've had a good diet since young.

If there's a cool big fish in the LFS though, i find it very hard not to get it

I like watching them grow, but the tank can seem very empty while they're young if you planned ahead and got a tank that is suitable for them as adults.

Currently, I got size specific, only because I dont have enough tanks to designate as grow-outs (in the idea that, by the time the "Grow-outs" were ready for the next tank up, they may have already eaten the smaller tanks occupants!)

Someday when I have a couple "Extra" tanks, I just may start buying fry only. But until then, I just dont have the room to make it happen! Nice thread topic too, btw!

OOOH that they do, my friend, that they do!!

You, and our non ending discussions , are the reason for this thread.

And your opinion seems prevalent....:)

Depends what it is. If I intend to breed the cichlids I like to grow them out. If I want to just keep a particular stock like to get grown fish.
