How do you prefer your fish?

There are certain fish i rather grow out. Some if im just looking for that particular fish and nothing im going to do in raising it will make a difference in its look then i rather get a larger size.

I don't like to grow out fish I think it takes to long. I prefer to pay allittle more for an adult fish then cheaper for a small fish and grow him out.

+1

I guess it also depends on the growth rate of the fish. If it's a pretty fast growing species (aros, cats, pbass) it's awesome to raise them from 3" or less. If it's something that's slow growing (festae, grammodes, etc) it's just a major pain in the behind. Trying to be patient with my grammode is really tough a he's only 4" now after having him for a month from 3.5" which is apparently pretty decent, lol.

I didn't read most of this thread. But some like to keep larger fish because they can actually house them for life. I rather keep larger fish then a group of small fish that WILL out grow most tanks.

delicate..tiny.. challengeing... but if the right fish comes along doesn't matter what size or age.. extreamely rewarding to raise our aba from 3" or so.. but also very rewarding to have given a 16" FLG a home... it's rewarding for me either way if its the right fish.

I personally like both. I keep smaller grow outs in my smaller tanks because I enjoy watching them grow. I keep bigger fish as well for obvious reasons. It also depends on if I'm looking for a particular fish and what size they're available at.
