how fast to armatus grow from 2"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I grow an Armatus to 18" in a standard 60gal acrylic tank. Depend on your feeding, it grows about 1.5"/month until it hit 7"-8" mark then it slow down to 1"/month until it hit 12" mark

18" in a 60gal
?

so how many months would he be great in a 48"x18" ... till he hit 10" or so ?
You can keep it in that tank for about 1.5 years to 2 years, when it reach 18"-20"

what would you do for tankmates for them at that size if any
Better to keep it alone. A lot of people think they're tough fish, but at the end of the day, they're just tetra. I moved my 18" into a 300gal a month ago. He can't compete for food with arowana, pbass or datnoid, got suck by flagtail... :screwy:

Thats insane growing an Army to 18 inches in a 60 gallon ... I believe that to be a 1% chance of happening so good job, but I wouldnt give that as advise for someone looking to get one and successfully keep it

And yeah DB I am lucky to have low pH water, and I agree it sucks to have very alkaline water especially if you like rays ... ATF's do fine with it though ... just saying! Maybe give you a push to come over to the dark side! :D I actually have well water, I rent a very old house, even has push button light switches, but the water is essentially rain water .... problem is after heavy rain, or a long drought the water can change quite a bit so I have to watch it constantly .... its weird, my water tastes like I'm literally drinking metal at times, and can rust silverware, and leaves green blue hard water stains in my bath tub, yet it comes out of the tap usually at a pH of 6.0 .... I have about 10 lbs of crushed coral in my sump to get the pH up to 6.6 ... very weird, and although I havent done it in a long time my KH and GH test kits took like 25 drops to see the color change which indicates hard water ... very confusing, maybe I'll try and dig up those test kits again since its been over 2 years, and I didnt really have a clue about fish keeping when I last did those tests .... sorry to derail

You don't know me very well.... lol.

I doubt most people here have any idea what my collection consists of. I'm not big on pics and updates unless people push for them. I can't stand arrogant people and if I was to keep doing updates of everything swimming at my place I'd be scared of being viewed as one of those people I can't stand.

Let's just say I've had a group from the "dark side" for almost as long as Robert's been with me. ;)

Ahhh, I wasnt aware .... I stand corrected then ... well when you feel he's ready post some pics would ya! Haha

That is NOT insane. Most of people tend to over think. I was not the first one did that. Single fish in a tank, easy to feed, no competition, no fight, no injury. Quite simple, yet sounds insane? :screwy:

it sounds insane because your growing a fish to as wide as the tank ......

I have seen pics of your amazing armatus pack... I would tend to trust what you say about those fishes :)

You should post some updated pics sometime, I would love to check them out.
