LA Times Covid-19 tracking August 30. My community:

36.1% are fully vaccinated. While "only" 83 cases in the last 3 days sounded promising to me, these LA Times stats don't look very good :(

One individual who died last week in our hospital had a recent FB avatar with "I DON'T CARE IF YOU'VE HAD YOUR VACCINE" around his picture. His current avatar had "I Stand For Medical Freedom Stop The Mandate" around his picture. People are dying for a cause they believe in. Seems like a needless waste in human lives to me.

These are the three hospitals we go to for serious urgent evaluations (like broken bones) and procedures like cancer surgeries and colonoscopies. 300-bed field hospital? Yikes :( :( :( I'd better not get sick, fall or have any kind of accident right now. I have never experienced not having access to good medical care, but I think that's where we are now. I HATE COVID-19.

Dying for a cause is not always a needless waste; history brims with examples of people losing their lives for worthwhile causes.

The thing is, this is so far from being a worthwhile cause that it's laughable. This is people drinking some inane flavour of social Koolade to avoid actually thinking things through for themselves.

I had to laugh at one of the comments on this graph of vax rates

It looks like my home Province is now leading the way in being dumb & dumber.
Vaccine hesitancy highest in Alberta, racialized groups at rollout's start: survey | CBC News

The good news is, our provincial health care service provider is now mandating vaccines for all employees, starting next month.

I suspect that the health care company that I work for will soon follow suit. They have already mandated vaccines for all new hires.

In light of the high case load, especially around my uni, I went for my first jab today. In and done in 10 minutes, plus 15 minutes observation. One poor sap fainted due to the needle. It was fine for me, some arm soreness and a dull head.

Our classes are still mostly online, but we have a bit of in-person practical work too

The side effect of having good genetics research, we find all the nasty stuff. This virus really is going ham.
