The gradual relaxation of the lockdown came into play some time ago now in the uk and as a result we started to get back to some kind of normality, sort of. But we knew there was a real chance of a second wave if everyone went totally daft. And of course, even though the vast majority were sensible, a lot weren't. And the second wave is truly upon us. Some areas are worse than others.

So, rather than have a complete uk blanket lockdown as before, which the flailing economy just could not take anyway, we have graded areas into three tiers and rules for each tier are coming into force. If you had a map of the uk in front of you and all the tiers were a different colour the map would be like a mosaic. Travel hasn't been completely banned between tiers either but there are strict guidelines, which, to the vast majority, are extremely muddy.

There was a call in on the radio today and worried members of the general public were ringing in with questions pertinent to their travel plans this weekend. The panel of "experts" were basically there to give advice and guidance. Some of the travel plans were quite complex and the experts were stumped!

And to top all the craziness off, the uk is split into four countries, England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. And all four have their own rules within the tier system!!

Nobody knows what to do for the best. It's a complete mess.

This covid isn't going away, ever. It is now with us for good, just like it's little brother, the flu. And no doubt other nastier strains are awaiting in the wings.

I think I should have posted this in my "doom and gloom" thread...and no jjohnwm jjohnwm , i'm not cheered up yet. Lol.

Hello; A few days ago I read a report ranking the spread of covid19 in terms of the type of mask. I have not found that report again yet but did come across the report in the above link. As the title indicates it might seem wearing a mask is more of a placebo than an effective measure.
Even in the report I read days ago the best mask was only said to be 75% effective and that was the N95 mask I have not found for sale locally at all. I think the more common disposable surgical masks were around 30 to 40% and cloth masks at around 17%.

My take is so many are still going by the older standard of the virus falling out of the air after six to nine feet. To be sure there is still droplet transmission but we now know there is an airborne element to the virus which can pass thru most masks.
I will continue to look for the report.

Hello; Still have not found the particular report I seek but the above link has even more and better information. Seems the truth about masks is mired in the general conflicts all around us. Some masks are somewhat effective at preventing an infected person from spreading actual larger liquid droplets from coughing, sneezing or shouting but do not do much to stop the aerosol virus particles from just breathing.
If you are healthy a mask likely will not help much except from the larger droplets and not much at all from the airborne virus.

This year Christmas in our house will be nice and quiet, no relations visiting, no parties, which to be honest is just how I like it. But of course not everyone will be having a low key Christmas. This was highlighted on the radio earlier. Most of 2020 has been blighted with covid and people are not, under any circumstances going to let it ruin Christmas.

Irrespective of government guidelines, Christmas, in many households going off the phone in, will be celebrated with full gusto. Family gatherings of far more than the "rule of six" we currently have will be commonplace throughout the UK. People are widely giving covid a two fingered salute.

Where this leads us to in 2021 is anyone's guess.

Hello; Same around me I guess. If it was not so damaging to economies and if there were not some folks dying this whole episode might be amusing.

And just around the corner we have winter, season of the flu, and vulnerable people will die, just as they are doing now from covid. I have a feeling that the usual annual expected death toll from flu will decrease somewhat this year, because the flu victims will be classed as covid victims!

Nobody here has had any health issues, except my Brother in Law, who is practically gone now. My sis says he often doesn't recognize her.
He's had a couple strokes, and is mostly stuck in a chair. He's the eldest in the family by 20 years. Retired veteran, and her second husband, he is 25 years her senior. I don't know if a simple infection would kill him, but it can't improve him mentally. Anyhow, they are on lockdown, seeing nobody.

I do expect my daughters and granddaughters to all come for Thanksgiving dinner.
Everybody's working from home and schooling from home.

I have been living with a school teacher for decades. After all the crap she's brought home, I don't expect we will be in danger.

Hey guys, I havent been on for a while but hope you have all been well. Ive had a bit going on, with work and family and unfortunately my dads 2nd wife passed away from cancer after a long battle. Due to lockdown i couldnt visit her in hospital or go to the funeral, it was weird as they got married when i was 25 and even though i always got on well with her she didnt have much to do with my day to day life and only saw her once or twice a year but her death hit me harder than i expected. I guess its just crap when a nice person dies and you cant do anything about it or say your goodbyes properly.
The good news is we have finally lifted our lockdown and will get to the final stage next week where pretty much everything reopens and no restrictions about leaving home. Will still have to wear masks and limited numbers of people in shops etc. but its a big relief after the long winter of lockdown, I even got to take my daughter trick or treating for halloween . We have gone from 700 new cases per day 9 weeks ago to 5 days of zero in my state. It shows lockdowns work but its a heavy price to pay.
Anyway, as i said i hope youve all been well and stayed safe, i will try to be on here a bit more regularly and will post some tank updates in the cichlid forum when i get a chance.
