Hello; A question for the sake of clarity. Some background first. Some months ago in a different thread which started out about Ebola virus and morphed into a discussion about Covid19, I made some observations about the proclamations , at that time, coming from some prominent medical authorities. In the fullness of time some of my observations have proven to be correct and while I cannot promise to be correct every time I happen to disagree with those in authority, I do wish to be able to discuss these mainly medical topics.
That thread was closed after another member took exception to my comments and we were both warned off. I strove then and continue striving to keep my posts civil and within the forum rules. I feel I have been successful. It seems to me most anything connected to Covid19 can be stretched in the mind of a reader to have a political angle, even if the writer of a comment is trying to stay away from such.

If for example I happen to be living in a part of the world and am subject to some rule or lockdown order that I happen to find fault about, will I be able to post about what I find faulty with the logic or science behind such a rule? For example I see in some places reported that the order is people are supposed to wear a mask when inside in their own homes. I live alone in a single family house so do not see the logic nor the science in this. Maybe if i lived in a multi family building with common ventilation or had lots of people coming and going.

That's the essence of the political content the TOS explicitly bans. You'll state point A, someone else will state point B, and 32 pages later someone's a nazi, someone else is a snowflake and we take a step in the wrong direction.

So please, no politicized content.

Had there not been a report, I'd have been content to ignore this thread, but here we are. Y'all have been doing great at staying within the letter of the law, and have been civil when you flirt with stepping out of it.

This is intended to serve as a reminder, nothing more.

Thank you all for your general civility in this hard time.

Ive enjoyed this thread, its been good to hear about everyones experiences from all over the world. It is hard to avoid politics as the whole thing has been politicised beyond belief but if the U.S election passed without a single mention we should be able to keep this thread under control.

As for me, my state has just passed 20 days of no new infections or deaths. They are finding traces of the virus in the sewers when they test so its obviously not eradicated completely but its certainly improved from a few months ago.
The bad news is our neighbouring state has had another outbreak after being clear for months. They have gone into a 6 day total lockdown where they arent even allowed to leave their houses which is very strict. Its been known about for a few days but they are only shutting the border tonight so we are all hoping no one contagious has come across from there.
The last few weeks of relative freedom have been good, especially with the warm weather, the last thing we need is another lockdown.

You seem to be slightly behind us in the uk. We came out of our first lockdown a couple of months ago after everything was calming down and figures looked good. But, as feared by a lot of people we came out of the first lockdown too soon and things have spiralled again. More lockdowns currently in place in some areas and no doubt more to follow. I hope things go a little bit better for you in Oz, but for the time being don't get too comfy with your new found freedom my friend.

The big emphasis now for everybody is Christmas. Will we be smack bang in the middle of a strict tier one lockdown at the most important family orientated event of the whole year? There's even been mention of a complete relaxation of all restrictions for christmas day where life goes on as normal, such is the pressure on the government to come up with a way so families can be together.

Even more so since, during several radio and TV phone ins, people have been basically saying that enough is enough, there's no way they are going through Christmas without their extended family members around them. I can see it coming, the restrictions are going to be ignored by hundreds of thousands, even millions of families throughout the uk over the Christmas period, not to mention the rest of the world too.

It's unfortunate that we're at this point. It would be great, on occasion, to have a good old debate on the hot political potato of the day. But your first paragraph there describes in total perfection the way these type of threads end up going. We just cannot play nice when there is the slightest inkling of a difference of opinion, and politics, let's face it, has everyone going in different directions. Even the most innocent of politically charged threads have the potential to explode at any moment.

Well it's getting very bad....sadly

We are back under full lockdown like it was in March/April. Theaters, gyms, rec facilities, bars closed, restaurants take out only again, stores back to only 25% capacity. No gatherings with outside of household indoors, only 10 outdoors with social distancing/mask etc.
Scheduled to go till Dec 14th and can continue if needed.

Numbers are worse now than then as well. Statewide yesterday 2600 new cases and 36 deaths.
The two hospitals in my city are at 95% capacity.

Globally, at least 7,000 health care workers have died from COVID-19.

Over 1700 health care workers have died from COVID-19 in the US.
.

Hopefully, this ER doctor will survive it.

There's a survey on FB on "How Afraid Are You of COVID-19?" While most of the responses are "10", there are some "1"s and "0"s by people who believe COVID-19 is no worse than getting a cold. :( :(

That is the problem right there. A lot of people think it is no worse than a cold because in some instances it isn't any worse than a cold, some don't even get cold symptoms, they are just carriers. Then the next thing we hear, some young dude who's healthy and as fit as butchers dog gets it and is at deaths door, or worse.

The vast majority of people who believe they are low risk have the classic attitude of, "oh, it won't happen to me," and then when it does happen to them it's, "well, I should be ok because i'm not in the 'at risk' category". And then it's a lottery of which way it goes for them.

It seems the very young are by and large very very safe, the old are at extreme risk, and all those in between are playing Russian roulette.
