Ahh yes, I had misunderstood what you were trying to say. Yes, alcohol and tobacco are some of the worst drugs there are and quite honesty I think they should be banned outright. A lot of people will be hurt by it, your wife for example, however the benefit would outweigh the negatives. I do understand that it is not a popular opinion and very many people would strongly disagree with me.

It is without doubt an extremely contentious subject, and you're right, opinions are divided. Politics and money play a huge part in it all so there's never going to be a simple solution to the worlds drug problems.

Everything is politics. From covid to BLM. Sometimes, the media is your biggest enemy.

Just a quick comparison for you. Your 60 days in a row of zero cases to the uk's last few days....I hope you're sat down!! Here's our DAILY new infection rates.

24th dec.....39036
25th dec.....32725
26th dec.....34693
27th dec.....32340
28th dec.....41385
29th dec.....53135

Yesterday's figure was the highest daily new infection rate since the whole thing began.

Found out yesterday that I lost two uncles, two aunts and three cousins to Covid/stupidity.
Apparently they decided to not listen to the scientists, not pay attention to restrictions and held a Thanksgiving gathering.

Things like this put everything in perspective. Even though we seem to be on the edge here it could be a lot worse,
Sorry for the loss Jexnell Jexnell , terrible news for sure.
We had 6 new cases today. That makes 9 after 60 days clean. Not sure if you guys have boxing day sales where you live but they are a big thing here. The original 3 positive cases went to the sales in a big shopping centre here. Even though masks have to be worn in such places it cant be good that they were around so many people while infectious.
Its a weird atmosphere, I was out and about this morning and you can see everyone is a lot more paranoid and taking more care than they were a week or 2 ago.

Don't know if they list our number much where you live. But we are running at about 1/4 million new cases a day and 3k deaths. Thats a Pearl Harbor, 911 attack every day, and all these idiots are just feeding the fires with all the gathering. Especially now with that new highly contagious strain out of England, that they have now for sure found in two different states.

OMG Jexnell that is incredibly bad luck!

We have been very lucky that no one in our family has been ill from Covid and no one has tested positive, nor have any of my friends or their families.

Since they shut down the churches, most of their social circle is safe at home.

But I have an aged aunt or two and many cousins, all thousands of miles from here. I haven’t had contact with any of them for 55 years. I was like 9 years old...

There was a lot of religious bigotry 70-90 years ago. My dad married a non-Catholic, and mom married a non-German. Also my mom’s dad was probably a non-religious Jew, living among all the Cincinnati Germans incognito. Nobody ever admitted to that.

Anyhow, all the bigotry split the family 7 ways, and remains so AFAIK.

They do report international figures on the news, mainly U.S and U.K. It shocks me how many people are still getting it every single day. Obviously you guys have a much higher population and greater population density in the big cities but its still a crazy number getting sick every day.
I know how highly politicised it is and it is debatable how serious it is if a normal healthy person catches it but I would think a rational person would still go into self preservation mode and avoid getting it if possible. Im aware its impossible for some people to avoid exposure due to their jobs but I would guess a large proportion of the new cases are avoidable.
The international cases are one of the reasons we are freaked out it has reemerged here. When we were 50 days without a case and seeing the international numbers it made me at least realise how fortunate we were and that all the inconvenience of the lockdown did actually achieve something good for all the chaos and disruption it caused. Its 1pm on 1/1/21 here, hope we wont still be talking about covid this time next year but ive got a feeling we might be.
Happy new year to you all too by the way!

Hello; Well I still have a little over two hours to go. It is 9:41 PM here. Happy new year to all.

Hello; About the numbers here in the USA. We do have a large population, over 300 million I think. So as bad as the numbers seem to be they need to be considered with reference to the whole population. I am not sure if it is smart but a lot of people are not doing the extreme precautions. Some never did. Some have decided they have had enough shut downs and restrictions. Some no longer trust those in charge for valid and not so valid reasons, even if they understand there is some level of risk.
I still take some precautions. Life has a way of forcing me into stores regardless. I wear a mask but understand how poorly the ones I can get now work. Better than nothing for sure, but not so much better. Also the understanding that those in charge of things are as often making decisions based on some agenda rather than the actual "science". Even those leaders whose job is the "science" have misled us too many times.

The good thing is around 99% of those who become infected will survive. Even older folks like me have around a 95% chance of survival. I suspect the good survival rates may be one reason some are willing to take their chances and not be so cautious. My brother who is 63 went to visit his daughter and his four grandchildren last week. Was it a good idea? So far he and his wife are OK.

I know it is not going to be a popular thing to say, but will. We as a species have made some lifestyle choices over the last few hundred years and especially the last decades. I figure these lifestyle choices are part of the issues. The easy ones are airplanes, mass transit and crowded high density cities. The less easy ones may be supermarkets and other big box stores. The listing can go on, but that's enough to make a point. I just do not see any way enough people can avoid becoming infected over time. My guess is the number of currently infected has reached a density such that there are enough of them to be spreading the virus at an accelerated rate.

It was a tough year. Definitely hurted us financially but we made it through. Hopefully 2021 is a new beginning for all of us. On brighter side, I spent more time on this hobby since I couldn't do anything outside my house.

New year, new start and all that. Welcome back from the land of the "naughty step" Ulu Ulu . Lol.
