how important is it

you just need surface currrent. thats it. as long as you can see the surface moving you are fine.
and i personally dont like the sound of the bubbles. so i never use air

powerheads, are the best imo. i dont like seeing bubbles from an airstone i aim my PH nozzle towards the surface so i dont see it and it moves surface water around. also have a rio no bubbles submersed on bottom to stir up extra poopies and whatnot so my aquaclears can filter it out.

So as long as there is surface movement that is fine? What if there is no CO2 going inside of your tank? Example a tank having a glass top and top is closed. Does that make any difference??

anybody please? I am about to take out my air pump and just have 2 powerheads running without the airlines to make bubbles.. and i have a glasstop with 7 fish in an 80gal tank.

I also have a glass top on my tank that stays closed, but I have a big air stone as well as a powerhead. I like a massive amount of bubble to break the surface to insure the proper gas exchange.

Ok so now i took out my air stones and air pump and now running just two powerheads and my rena filstar filter with the spray bar. my water is flowing pretty good but no bubbles anywhere. should be good? just worried about my fish.

you would need to move the spray bar to a point where it would "penetrate" the water and not just move it around for aeration to occur. Other wise you are getting a very low level of oxygen transferred.
