How Long Before Upgrade?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think if you go for a 300 wide with a 30 in width, it is good enough for your stock. Others will disagree but I think that will be your best bet. It will also has the best chance for it to fit in an average dwelling.

Ok thanks. Is there like a specific place that most people on here buy there huge tanks?

there was a good deal on here out of Tampa just the other day.

A silver arowana is gonna need a 450 for life. The CKF is fine in anything they could tie themselves in a knot if they had too, the gar and pbass stay fairly small, but there's tons of YouTube vids of this guy feeding his arros in a 450. After you watch it you'll agree.

I'd stick the arro and the shovel nose in a 450 and leave the rest in the tank you have, then youll have top and bottom swimmers in both tanks. Just think about how big a fish will be when you can feed it whole rabbits and chickens. ( yes arowanas can digest animal protein don't even say they can't lol)

Bunnys and chickens, LOL. My arowana are pretty good size can't imagine one of them eating either of the pre mentioned.

IMO bare minimum footprint for a single silver aro is gonna be 96" x 30" with at least 24" height. I believe this will work for 99% of the silvers out there as I don't see hardly any getting bigger then 32" in a home aquarium. With the rest of the OPs stock I believe a 30" height would be better for this community. You can click the link in my sig and see my 450g 96x36x30" tank, it is crowded. Would be better suited for just two arowana, maybe three but four is definitely a crowd. Though your stock doesn't quite match mine you will have alot of huge fish. With the 30" height you'll have a better defined top, middle and bottom swimming levels.

ecoli73 brings up a good point though you need to plan for a tank that fits through standard doorways, though extra wide tanks can be rotated onto their side. You also have to consider narrow hallways and cornering. My tank would fit on it's side through a standard doorway, but could not make the corner of the room it is in so I had to bring in through a window.

If I got this stock in a 225 gallon aquarium how long would it be before I had to upgrade? I was told about 2 years but want to verify because ill need the time to acquire money and would a 300 gallon be a sufficient upgrade?
1 Silver Arowana
1 Florida Gar
1 Ornate Bichir
3 Peacock Bass
1 Clown Knife
1 Lima Shovelnose

The upgrade would pretty much just be for the Arowana because the other fish would be fine for life right?

Arowana, Florida Gar and Clown Knife can all grow to 3'+. Depending on what type of PBs you get you could be looking at 3 fish that should grow 30"+.
One of the reasons you don't see too many of them on here that size is because people try to keep them in undersized tanks (i.e. 220G). A 300G would be way too small for all those monsters.

I would say you have at most 2 years in the 220G if you get them all at under 6 inches. Then an upgrade to 10x4 (600G) would be in order as a long term home.

2 years should give me enough time. Hopefully I can get a job bagging groceries or something...

There are plenty of fish you can keep in a 220G for life. Why not stock the tank with species you can keep in it for life?....just in case you don't land this dream job you refer to.
