How long can I keep him

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Many people keep there silvers in a 180g as you have described for life. IMO I believe that arowanas need to be kept in tanks that are 3x there length and have a width equal to that of the aros length. So that being said your tank would be good for a 24" silver aro. I also believe you can cheat a bit, i.e. a 27" would be Ok in the stated tank, but eventually the upgrade is needed.

Silver aros grow on average 1 to 1.5" per month upto the 24" mark. Once they reach 24" most have their growth slow to 1 or 2" per year. So it is likely your 4" will reach 24" in about 18 months and may only grow another 3" in the following 18 months. So I would say that you have at least 2 years and maybe 3 years before needing to move your arowana.

you expect me to be able to know what the growth rate of his arowana is going to be without knowing anything other than tank size? when its 24" upgrade, whether thats 6 months or 3 years ;)

lol just messing dog. No one knows exactly how long. You shouldn't keep it in there until it gets to 24" tho. I'd say like 20 at the most.

Just wondering where you have formed your opinions? Have you ever even owned an arowana or a tank that is of a larger size?

IMO, i would rather move it when the Aro is smaller- I would think it would be more difficult to move when it's 24".
i agree, strong jumpers they are lol

Thank you all for the information. I am planing to upgarde my tank ASAP. However ASAP may mean a year to two years. I will do a review of the situation im in when my fish hit 24 inches.

you could keep it for life in there, the size IS the minimum of course but its not a bad size for it.
