How long can I keep him

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Keep it as long as u want, i see may other mkers have tons of fish in small tanks anyway even though they say u require 1in per 3 gallon. People aways say the bigger the better, but if u cant afford bigger tank. Just use what you have. Bottom line is, do what you like and do what you are pleased with.

thank god the OP doesnt have a 10 gal for his arow, otherwise your advice would be not useful.

back to OP 180 gal.... a year to maybe a year and a half

IME with friends aros...

one of his was really well cared for (water changes, good food and regularly feeding, ect). At the speed his was growing, it would outgrow at 180 (by outgrow I mean reach 24inches) in a year.

My other friend didn't do many water changes and didn't feed constantly and his would have taken 2 years at least to reach 24"

This could be the worst bit of advise I have ever seen posted here on MFK :duh:

geez, goto to the arowana section and look at the pix people post. 9.99/10 put them in tank around 100-150 or maybe 180 i havent seen one person house just one silver in anything bigger. Prove me wrong..... show me pix of more then 3 people

Thank god asian arowana still on the ban list, since these fish keeper contribute 0% to conservation. And majority of these fish keeper dont keep fish longer then 10yr. Only those are most experience (killing) do so..

well "if" you read(notice the quotations)
he asked how long he can keep a "silver" arowana in a 180
ideally you can keep him in that 180 for a while but its better to give him a longer tank to swim in.
silvers tend to get longer then a jardini and asian.
in fish tanks i havent seen a pic of a jar or asian push over 24" making the 180 a suitable home since its 2 feet wide and the 6ft gives him enough swim.
but i seen some silvers push almost 3feet making the 180 not really suitable because of the wideness and a 6foot tank for a 3foot fish aint enough swimming room

Thats it? Small % verse Thousands of arowana owner. No wonder Govt keep trying to ban most import, since the finally realize that "we" are hurting the environment more then helping. Just like what they are doing now trying to ban some imports. People keep buying and buying since they keep dying. Ask urself how many fish you kill since starting the hobby and how many fish u keep in the tanks.

Dude, this may be a example typical of your fishkeeping, but most of us know what we are doing and this is not typical. In your case you'd be better of just taking advise instead of trying to give.
