I'd also like to see an 18" Tat is captivity, Also I may not buy the large one from my LFS instead I might get one from Anubias Design in their Peru order,
they get all their fish in stock today.
We all would. That dosent mean that it dosent happen. You have a whole page of people giving you good advise, granted it isn't what you want to hear. If you aren't going to listen to the advise, why did you ask?

I would say if you can get something with 2' of turning space in the next month, go for it.

Every fish is different, you can very well buy a fish and upgrade as necessary. You don't need a massive tank for a small payara, you can upgrade as necessary. Also, not all fish of the same species are as claustrophobic. I have seen large ATF in small tanks for months and then I have seen small ATF kill themselves in the same sized tank.

If you don't think you will be able to upgrade when he starts bashing his face on the glass, don't get it. I would say if it looks good at the store and isn't torn up in the face you can put it in your tank for now. Just be prepared to upgrade very quickly.

Really? I've been keeping fish for 25 years now and most of the fish I keep have obtained their wild sizes.... huh? I guess I'm just lucky

I am very interested to know what species you have kept that obtained their wild sizes. I know that many smaller tetras and community fish normally reach their wild sizes, but I very rarely hear of fish over 4" reaching their wild sizes.

edit: never mind I just relieved that I'm talking to a 13 year old....

:clap

You may get away with it for short period time but there is a hight risk that the payara will get spooked resulting in traumatic head injury. I have lost payara half that size in my 265 due to this reason. The convicts are fair game if he gets hungry. Good luck

in my opinion, the fish has no where to go if the store closes down and if its in that small of a tank at the moment you could keep it in a 55 for a bit but any way gud luck bro :D

Thanks I might take him, But if Anubias Design's shipping price goes down when he get's the fish I'll have to take one of their smaller ones instead.

Also, you cannot always expect that fish go to good homes. A lot of times fish are sold to wrong tank setups or just die in the LFS. Most of the vampire tetras in my area die in the LFS and the few that are sold the buyer insists that they will be okay with their oscar or africans :irked:

You have a good point there, Most people who buy Payara from their fish stores think they look cool because they have teeth, Then they buy them and have no idea what the hell they are doing and end up killing the fish, A tleast I know some information on this species to keep it living. Oh and plus the fish has no marks on it's head from hitting the glass which means it's used to being in small tanks. He's been sitting in a 1.5 ft x 1 ft tank for over 3 months since no one has bought it.

Oh and the owner insists it's a Tat, But it looks so much like an Armatus it's not even funny, Does not swim in an angle at all and has much more finage than a Tat, We might have a $55 dollar Armatus on our hands lol.

Snap a picture for us and post it up.

Outa town right now, When I go to (Possibly) pick it up i'll take a picture of it and I will probably have it home when I post the pic up, I'm going to take a very good look at it when I get there, I know an Armatus when I see one.
