hi, I was just intrested to know, how long have you been fish keeping for? I oftern look at my tanks more than the tv lol its more fun to watch. I don't think I'll quit fish keeping anytime soon.

Although I am still learning its been over 40 yrs keeping fish.☺ TBH didn't get better until learning from the Internet.
About 40 years as well. Had a 29 gallon metal framed tank as a kid in the 70's. Worked at and/or managed several LFS in the 80's-00's. Took a couple year break when my twins were born, then back into it.
This is the one thing I can't brag about on this forum...

You are right that length of service to the hobby does not equate well to expertise. A weak correlation in other words, IMO.
I got my first fish tank around 30 years ago. I've been a serious hobbyist for 15 years. The turning point was being introduced to neotropical cichlids.
I started keeping cichlids in the late 1950s, so almost 60 years.
While I don't consider length of time an absolute, I have made many, many mistakes during that time, and tried to learn from all of them.
I have also made it a point to travel to where cichlids come from, and research how they live, quite eye opening to see the reality compared to a little glass box.

I have been in the hobby 15 years but did not get proficient in it till the last 5 years where I really leaned the science behind it. I love the hobby and try to learn something new every day.
