There are new piranha hobbyists popping up all the time, which is great!!

But I'm wondering how long people been keeping piranhas and if they still have their timid beasts after all these years..

I've been a piranha enthusiast since high school, which was about 10 years ago. I had a shoal of 5 in a 110 gal long for 3 years but lost them due to a power outage. After that I kept an elong for 2 years which I sold to a friend (who is now a P keeper), and now I have a red Sanchezi which I've had for about 3 years.

Just wondering what everyone else has had/have and how long they've had/have them for....care to share?

I had 4 rbp for just over a year then I got tired of skittish fish. About a year later I got a big rhom and kept him for about a year and... got tired of a skittish fish. Now I cant keep piranhas where I live and couldnt care less. Piranha can be cool fish, but not my cup of tea

What's up Kev? Havent seen you much lately.

*6 rbp for almost 2 years.

*1 striolatus piranha for 1.5 years.

This thread just made me realize how much time flies!

i bought my first piranhas when i was in the middle school around 2001. then I gave the fish to a friend after 1 or 1.5 years.
in 2013 again I bought piranha and still I have them.
I know 1 person who has 17 years old 4 piranha shoal. They are still strong and they can live up to 30 years.

Hey vet! good to see ya. Yeah I've been busy with work and stuff that I haven't had much free time. I see your reds are doing splendid, and I like that striolatus! Looks like a brute.

And I love the fact that people in this hobby can still hold onto their fish, and they're here for the long haul. I just don't see that very often. (not to knock anyone, of course..its just nice to see).
