Give me strength!!
My 18 inch RTG is up to 5 weeks without eating anything. I WANT it on sticks and MS!!
I've stopped the SW 5 weeks ago. I feed my Dats MS every day and the RTG won't even go for that!! I put Tapilar in for the dats and the RTG won't eat it.

I put 4 sticks in daily to try and get it to eat and it just casually swims past.
I know it hungry, its got to be hungry.
Seriously how long can it go without eating. I'm not giving in this time, stupid thing can die if it wants, i can replace it with a SR, i don't mind!!

Hey c-c.. what is tapilar???? do you mean tilapia.. i have one stubborn silver arowana which refuses to eat anythin except hikari tropical pellets, crickets and feeders.. i've been thru this routine too but 5 weeks that is a lot.. i understand they are hardy fish and everyone says wait give it some more time.. my silver eating pellets was totally unexpected.. i'd say it was pure luck.. i had feeders in there and used to toss pellets in everyday.. and now i'm tryin to get her on MP and tilapia but no go.. so i jus gave up and jus give her what she wants.. i totally understand people sayin varied diet et all.. but just give her what she wants.. and still toss in the sticks everyday..i'm sure it'll work.. all the best with it.. cheers..

It is not "give them waht they want". It is give them what you want them to eat.

I've had savage Blacks eating pellets. Once they're grown and adapted, you can take the risk of letting them get real hungry.

Then they'll eat.

hey miguel.. i'm not askin him (c-c) to stop trying though.. this could spawn into a big debate :) you'd could say i chicken out quicker.. cos i can't seem to see them goin hungry and looking at me everytime i pass their tanks.. its jus an opinion..

you are better man than me ^^ i never did quite break my SR from SW (i rue the day i went to udon thani and found them)

my red is super fickle eater - the only thing he never refuse is SW. everything else is touch and go tho he does eat a little bit of MP and cricket after a tantrum hunger strikes but never gauge on anything else except SW. not even live fish and frogs.

now, by fluke, my XBs and variants eat anything and everything (and they are fat)

I say keep starving until new foods are accepted (only one asian aro i have eats floating sticks)

PS: how much you want for your capricious RTG?

Yes, tilapia, sorry.

Ctoc. A thousand Baht per inch would be about right. I bought it for 12,000BHT when it was little. It does have a little bit of lower protruding jaw and is not the brightest gold so if i were to sell it 18,000Bht would be a fair price considering a a higher quality RTG of the same size would sell for double that.

The only pellets I have had luck with for stubborn aros are the Hikari carnivore and massivore. All other brands get rejected. Just be aware that aros not used to eating pellets can make a real mess of them until they are used to them.

Have you tried crickets yet as a transitional food ?

i have one red arowana at the moment that is on a strictly hand feed silverside diet with a few hikari pellets in the morning. This fish used to eat everything until I spoilt it with a diet of 1000 superworms.

I used to feed crickets, but stopped. I was feeding the crickets Aro pellets and it would stop eating the crickets .
I haven't fed crickets for a while now, i need to get it back into eating MS really.

6 weeks, still not eaten a bite. Showing a bit of interest in the Dat's MS but not eating.
I'm not going to crumble and other Asian aro keepers can use this thread as a point of reference.

but if its not eating even crickets why would it eat pellets.
wait till it gives in, gets hungry enough to beg and then try throwing the pellet deep into the water like a moving object.
