  • Against... No way. That is horrible. They both need 75 gallons to themselves. blah blah.

maybe he was just having a laugh? i dunno...

i am also having the "oscar in a 55g" debate on a thread i made....

i'm just gonna go for it and upgrade when it needs it...

Considering some of the huge oscars I've seen at my lfs, I would never put an oscar in a 55 gallon. The tank is just not wide enough.

In all honestly, an oscar would eventually outgrow a 55. It would take at least 5 or 6+ years, but i have seen 16'' oscars and putting one of those in a 12'' wide (externally) tank would just not work. ;)

Whatever floats your boat. With enough filtration and plentiful water changes you could pull it off easy.

(fyi, i had a breeding pair of O's in a 55. probably not the wisest setup but if worked)
Agreed. Gotta have real good filters though.

If I had food and a small brain....sure.

i think u already know the answer to this, being you have those oscar threads. i cant believe you havnt seen an O bigger than 8 inches. they are usually really common at most lfs cuz people always bring em in when their tank gets outgrown. maybe thats just where im at

Have you ever kept oscar's to a adult age before?

OP: Personally, I would do it to be honest. The oscar in a 55gal by it's self and no sen. I have yet seen a 16'' or even a 14'' oscar before. I had oscar's ever since I was 14. Grew 2 out for 5 years in a 75gal and reached 12''. A breeding pair. So, IME and IMO, a 55 will work a great while. But they look better in a 75gal with more fish.
