How many can I have in a 100 gal

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This is just my opinion as unpopular as it may be. When as monster fish keepers are we ever just happy with what we have? What is this concept of what you gonna do in two years? These are not arapaimas nor shamu..... These are bichirs. If you want more bichirs, get em! ...... But as someone here mentioned, do expect to do more water changes and maintenance. I love doing WCs so its no problem. A 24" by 4ft aint a bad size tank for your bichirs..... This isn't like putting an adult oscar into a 29gallon. Get more. Enjoy fish keeping. Don't be afraid to experiment. Think out of the box. You worried about what you gonna do in 2 year?..... You never know..... You might not even be into fish keeping! So get them bichirs..... Do your thing!

Holy ****! $50 a month? I've got 5 snakes with the smallest being a foot and the largest being 14' and I only spend about $20 a month on rabbits to feed them.

Back on topic. I think as long as they got room to turn, tank is extremely over filtered and you're on top on wc's you can add as much as you like

Lol I Iike u fram lol love the way u think haha no deff not aropimas lol but is love to have a aropima haha true monster keeper right there haha .... The concept in 2 years is right now get a 120 to hold them ... As soon as my girl gets a job as a rn at the hospital we buyin a house ... First thing I am doin when we get the house within the first few months is gettin a large tank off craigslist .... 300-400 gallons preferably 400 lol ... I have seen them on there many times for 1800$ or less iv seen 300 gals for 1000$ a few times ... I can deff afford that ... Plus my girl will be making 4-5000$ a month so I'll be good on that ....that I the plan the only fish I will wish to keep in the tank is 1 arowana and maybe a couple gars 2 at the most... The rest will just be bichirs 20-30 of em lol note: ( I don't want that many right now lol) I am taking everyone's advice into consideration I understand the points from both sides of what I'm being suggested.... There r only 3-4 more sp. that I just really really want badly lol but I'm sure once I get those few there will be 3-4 more that takes there place lol

I understand everyone wants more and more, but why not practice proper fish keeping as well? Instead of doing what ever, why not give your fish a haven where they can live prosperously and not in a over crowded tank thats also to small. A oscar in a 29 gallon is almost 2 times to small of a tank right, a 100 gallon is about 2 times to small for lower jaw bichirs as well. Look at it this way, if no upgrade were to occur the lower jaws still reach 2ft+ very easily meaning they cant even turn easily, on top of having 10 other bichirs at about the same size isnt a very good mix. The OP would also need to do a crazy amount of maintenance at that point with all those predators eating a good varied diet. I would just once again recommend holding off on more bichirs until your situated, but at the end of the day its your decision and your fish so do as you please :D

What u talkin about Willis? So I don't practice proper fish keeping because I don't have some tiny tiny bichirs in a fish haven like you do and I suggest to the OP to get more bichirs? What makes you think I don't practice proper fish keeping? And I would like to know what is proper fish keeping anyway? Did I not get the memo? And i have read this thread, where is anyone ,JUST DOING WHATEVER? You want a fish haven?-- leave them in the wild buddy boy. Oh really? Lower jaws can easily reach 24"s plus?? How many of them tiny tiny bichirs you got reach 2 ft? Just saying.....
