How many different foods are you feeding?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
lol, all food threads come to nls :)

NLS is my staple pellet but even I get annoyed by it when I'm looking for objective opinions on other foods. People wanna know about southern delight, u hear about NLS... Omega1? Nah, NLS.... because of MFK, I know more about NLS than I even wanna know. Its ingredient list is top shelf, we know that... I'm assuming there has to be a few bad things about NLS, can't we let people like myself know about those? What are some good things about some other foods? Although I'm far from an expert on this stuff like some of these people, I supplement my NLS staple with Omega1 and a lot of the ingredients are different but it still looks pretty darn good compared to other pellets out there. Doesn't have to be all NLS, all the time...

I get annoyed by people who want answers to their questions, then piss & moan when someone who is not only objective enough, but well versed enough, actually takes the time to supply them with the answers to those questions.

Example #1 ^^^..... there are people who have answered questions on this thread that are very objective, u are not 1 of them. Anyone can go back to any food thread on MFK and see it, put the NLS pom-poms down buddy.

Here a link to a past discussion on the O1 vs NLS. This should help take care of the derail. I also just realized I haven't weighed in in this topic. I feed NLS as a staple, and supplement with tilapia and red wrigglers to avoid over feeding some extremely ravenous fish in my 1400 gallon community that refuse everything but the NLS.

That won't take care of the derail, that thread looks exactly like this one... and every other food thread on MFK. How bout we take NLS out of this... what are some opinions on freeze dried foods vs frozen foods? I feed my Jag frozen mysis and krill once a week... if fed appropriately, what's better for our fish?

As far as freeze dried vs. frozen? Or what foods that are freeze dried or frozen are best. With frozen you are paying for water. No point really. Krill is a great addition to fishes diet, but only sparingly. Tilapia is as well as it low in fat yet still quite high in omega 3 and 6. Squid is also great and offers an amino acid profile not found in many pellets. Red wrigglers are one of my favorites as the are super easy and cheap to raise yourself and really good for fish. I'm sorry I'm not as well versed as Neil but I hope that helps you out. You still will never likely reach the overall nutrition levels of the higher end pellets but as far as treats go these are all good choices.

JRT ..... keep whining, pissing, and moaning, and perhaps you can get this thread locked as well.

I'm actually very objective, I have no vested interest in any of this, and quite frankly don't care what anyone feeds their fish. But having fed most of the foods mentioned in this thread, and others, and someone who outside of the person who created NLS happens to know more about it than anyone else on MFK, along with fish nutrition in general, who would you suggest answer your questions/concerns about that particular brand of food?

I also wasn't the person who derailed this thread, you were, at post #33 when you stated the following:

While I think NLS has the best ingredients out of any fish food that's currently sold in the U.S., it's kind of disappointing that they don't have more variety for people with fish that need more protein in their diet, like my Jag or any other carnivorous fish. For that reason, I supplement my Jag`s staple NLS diet with hikari carnivore pellets... which honestly doesn't have the greatest ingredients list but he seems to respond better having that extra protein in his diet. NLS claims that their food will work as the staple for your fish no matter what you have, but if you're able to feed NLS as a staple to herbivores AND carnivores, there's definitely something wrong there. Being that NLS is the best fish food in the U.S., you'd think they'd give us a wider range of foods to choose from. That's the only complaint I have, otherwise I like their food a lot and will continue to use it... just not exclusively.

Up until that point no one was going off about anything, NLS or otherwise, and for the most part were simply posting the foods they fed. You seemed to have some issues, I did my best to respectfully answer those issues.

If you have a problem with reading my comments, feel free to add me to your ignore list, but spare me the attitude.

Ignorance isn't an excuse in my world......
