Hou habe, in German, very good books about the breeds you like.

Search for Walt Weisse ( dead regrettably ) one of the big experts in mollossers.

You have the books on Fila Brasileiro by austrian Roswita Hisrch Reiter, and so on....

Mastiffs are the love of my life!

( more so than fish. :(

Love Boerboels! Impressive dogs!

You misusnderstand me, Ben.

Thos farm dogs are in my farm, 200 kilomteres aqay from Lisbon. Wolves come down from the mountains, in the north of Portugal and in the centre looking for shhep, in wintet.

I never said they come near Lisbon...:)

Yes they are :) One lives near me and since I saw him they are my favourite breed! Also love lots of other breeds though :D

Now I get your point. Where exactly is the farm located?
So are the wolves rather common ir are there just a few where your farm is?

Wolves ae very common in the north east.

They appear in my farm in the northern alentejo ( nears Spain ) rarely, but they do.

There are bears in Spain now....:)

Another breed i absolutely love, and i hunt boars with them, is Dogo Argentino. A friend of mine has more than 50 just for boars and deer.

We had a dogo at shelter for a while. He was adequately named captain chaosImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1358454029.012064.jpg loved him but they are breed not for the novice dog owner

Wow that's crazy. How did your dog (which breed, I can't see your pics)manage to kill it anyway?
We are getting some wolves and 1-2 bears in Germany now, too. Sadly they get shot very often :(
50 Dogo Argentino that is crazy!!! Wow :D
I also love the Berger de Pyrenées. Love the combination of a large, muscular body with the long, soft and white fur. Which is your favourite breed of the ones you've had?

My favourite breed is the Neapolitan Mastiff.

My favourite dog was my Cane Corso *****.

Those farm dogs are awesome, but they are " property guards " not person guards.

The dogs that kill wolves are the farm dogs, Cao de Gado Transmontano and Rafeiro do Alentejo. They are very very similar to the Spamish Mastiff. Their behaviour is savage. They live in the field and are not overly keen on human contact. ( a bit loke the turkissh Kandal....)

I do a very big distintion in mollossers, divided along the lines of person guards and propert/ cattle guards. Tottally different thpes of breeds.

My Neos , cane and BX were allways with me. If i stood more than 3 minutes in one place they would lie down and more often than not, fall asleep. They would wake up the moment ii moved. That is my kind if dog.

Farm dogs know you, like you, but could care less to be near you.

The dogos i know are kept as hunting packs, with no special human contact. But a kept dogo is a personal guard dog as is a boerboel...

Man i could go on for hours......:)

Wow that's some cool info.. Thanks! I heard of large dogs roaming more or less freely in the Alentejo and Northern Portugal (Coimbra specifically) but I thought that was quite a long time ago..
I'll have to look up those dogs you mentioned. Must be beasts if one can kill 2 wolves!!
We have a Kangal in my neighbourhood, too. Needless to say, when he and the Boerboel that also lives here meet, you can probably see me drooling away right there :o
My own dog is totally like your mastiffs and cane corsos. If only she and me are at home she'll fall asleep whereever I am :)
Please do go on for hours! I am finding this extremely fun and interesting!:)
