How many male poly do you have ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My bet would be something to do with temperature or possibly hormonal? maybe something to do with keeping sexes balanced in the wild based off observed hormone levels in the environment during their spawning season that determines how many eggs develop male vs female for the next generation, would be hard to control in captive breeding with our tank setups, filtration and water changes. Ive heard of this happening with some reptile and fish species

For the longest time. I was unable to figure out why there's a larger population of females versus the males. I kept scratching my head and look and looked. Throwing out some on my own some good potentials and many ridiculous theories, lol.

As some of u remembered. I posted a semi recent study of the 33 endli and 26 Senegal in the sub poly forum. where the stomachs was examined and sizes caught near lake Chad. Unfortunately the sex was not cataloged. I'm like what the heck! That could of gave us some good male to female ratios.

Well boys and girls. I found the holy grail answer to this question! I'll provide the details tomorrow. :)

There needs to be an unlike button for teases! lol

Right after the chart. Mostly females caught. Probably due to laying eggs. While the males went back to deeper water, and their greater activity of the males enabling them to elude capture.
+1 maybe females lays egg in swallow waters while males goes back to deep water.

I guess that could be a reason as to why adult wc are mostly female. Most.... nope all but my moke were babies when I got them. I don't know how fast they grow in the wild id guess slower then in captivity, but I doubt my Moke was sexually mature when if she is wc was caught. She was only 5" and about the size of a pencil or a smaller hi liter around.
