If I were your parent, I would want you to come up with a line item budget, both initial cost and maintenance; If the space is really yours, demonstrate it will not interfere with other activities, and emergency plans if something goes wrong(leaks mainly, etc).

I would also want to know if you decide to move out, how to undo these things if the pond also need to go.

I was going to open up a new thread but this thread fits the question perfectly, so I'm just gonna ask here.

How do you guys convince your parents to allow you a bigger tank/ pond?

My point is, I really really want an indoor pond. Next year my room will be expanded so I'll have the space. I will also have the money, since I'm saving quite alot and also an intex pond is quite cheap.
But every time I tell my parents about it, they say I'm crazy, and that no one in their right mind would build a pond indoors.
How would you guys do it?
Really want a pond :(

I got all my tanks by myself. I told the person ill go pick them up and my one friend drove me there, then I brought them home and my dad was like "WHAT IS THIS!" lol then I just brought them upstairs in my room and it worked fine. I don't reccomend trying this. I got my dad to say yes to a 500 by asking him to feed my fish for one weekend I was away, then he started liking my fish and was looking into other fish he likes and then he said how about a huge tank. I was literally gonna piss myself when he said this! Lol

I also want an indoor pond or a 120-180 gallon aquarium. I can't convince my parents either.

Most kids would get killed for that.

Thanks alot for your input, it helps looking at the whole matter from an adult- point of view ;)
Setup and maintenance costs aren't really the problem; I pay the setup, fish, filter etc. they pay the water and electricity; if they had a problem with the cost, they would surely not have allowed me a >3000 gallon outdoor pond, and I pay anyway :D
Leaks are a whole different matter of course.. I'm going to look into this in the pond section; thank you :)

May have worked for you but have you considered trying this with a 10 foot diameter intex pool in the middle of your room? Probably no :D

I think the main thing for a teen keeper who is thinking of ponding is to remember you will leave your parents in say the next 5 years and will not be able to put a pool in a apartment. The biggest thing i could recommend is the 150-210 gallon rubbermaid tub's they come in all kinds of colors are aquarium/farm safe, drillable its the way im going they never leak unless cracked add white sand and boom or cut a hole and bond glass way cheaper than plywood builds or pools that will mess up in the next 6-9 years from something weakening.
