ok well on the 16th im starting construction of my new 12x6x3 indoor pond. About 1500gallons for my cat fish. But I ended up buying a few Oscars at the lfs a month ago and the they have grown on me. They havnt been as aggressive as I had initially feared and just swim around in a lil group. So I was wondering what would be a good sized group for my new pond. also would they get along with a breeding pair of Tilapia? thanks for the input

Here are a few pics of my current ones just for fun.

I don't know about breeding tilapia, but a 1500 gallon tank could easily house 15 Oscars, give or take for filtration and feeding schematics.

Filtration will is 180gal wet/dry with scrubbies or about 41500cubic inches of bio filtration in and 9k gph flow rate.

any other suggestions on stocking regarding cichlids would be great.

alot of oscars as long as there are no bullys.wow

Are the tilapia the black stripey ones? My friend had one that was a killer, and from what I read most of them are and yours are breeding? Keep a close eye out for dead oscars, your tank is prolly big enough though.

the tilapia are gold. Im not really sure what kind they are. they are at my lfs stuck in a 55gal and I thought they looked pretty cool both over 15" if they wont work I wont buy them i was just curious

Could work, but if either the Tilapia or the Oscars started to breed, a fight might occasionally break out.

I would only do about 6. A huge shoal of oscars doesn't sound very appealing to me (although it would probably work in a pond that size). I'm not sure whether they'd get along with the tilapia pair, though... It probably depends on the species.
