How many people are having problems with Prime?

Well guys, don't know if it's just the water in my area or some other variables.
Went back to what I used in the past...Tetra Aqua safe.

I no longer observe clamped fins, flashing, or spooked fish.
This really sucks I have to use like 10x more water conditioner...1 cap full per 10 gal.
But if the fish are happy so am I.

I'm reluctant to say anything because my information is fragmentary but after my last two wcs (with Prime) I did notice some mild flashing...which, of course, is indicative of gill irritation. Seachem indicates that you can grossly exceed the recommended dosage without any injurious effect upon the fish, so I'm probably not overdoing it. I purchased a new 500 ml bottle and am going to use it for the next few wcs and see what happens. I had been using a 2 liter bottle, which I've had for at least a year. It may be that the Prime has lost its potency and the flashing is attributable to uncomplexed chloramine. I'll email Seachem in the morning.
 
I was just going to say that it was a bad batch. Some stores might get 50 in at once and one rolls underneath the shelves and gets lost for years. Doubt it but who knows. I would just buy a small bottle of Prime and dose again and see what happens. Or even dose to a tank that you could care less if the fish die.

Have you tested your tap water params ?

Beyond the usual nitrate/nitrite ammonia.. Like chlorine or chloramine content. If you cant test for it yourself you can get the info by hassling the water company :D
 
i havent noticed any bad effect i recently purchased a new bottle. although i do think it had more black specks in it the the past ones ive purchased (black specs are considered normal). my little recently purchased baby otocincluses seem healthy as could be. my goldfish are the same constant eating machine they always are, infact they been looking very good lately. my gourami seems ok.

i dont think this is a overdosing poisoning issue as prime is safely dosed up too 5x. perhaps its prime overdosing issue that effects ph, i used prime when cycling tanks to offset ammonia and keep the cycle fish alive i remember one time(couple years ago) right after i overdosed prime i tested the ph and it was very high, like 9. i didnt think anything of it at the time just assumed the ph test was screwed up, it was one of those 5 in one strips i was really testing the nitrogen cycle parameters. to make the link prime was the cause is a leap, but im just throwing the possibility out there people have said the symptoms are similar to ph shock.
 
I must rephrase ,I think my water is the problem ,and the prime isn`t working with my tap water in eliminating the bad tap water conditions. The amquel seemed to be working better at treating the water ,but now I am seeing symptoms again. I have a feeling that they have increased/changed something at the water treatment plant. I am going to start doing weekly tap water tests and see if I can find some dramatic water chemistry changes.

I have a reef keeper controler on my African 240 and it reads PH...I use the heck out of prime and never have seen any effect on PH. Matter of fact no ill effects at all but I have only used prime since I started my 240 several months back.

Thanks for the inquiry. Prime does not have an expiration date and will not break down or become less effective over time. I would check with your local water municipality to see if they have made any changes upon what they add lately. Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.
