depends where you live. union carpenters in boston a few years back were making between 40-50 hrly and had lots of work. everyone in the trades has slowed down as of late of course

But the union still get their dues, right? Isn't that kind of absurd that the top dogs at the union don't have to rock with the ebb and flow of the economy? They continue to prosper and generally have not done a thing to help the economy. At least large corporate owners/CEO's take part in decision making to make the company they are running more prosperous. Am I correct with this statement? I am not union, so I am not real savvy of what it's all about at the top of the chain.

Hmmmm... Economy is bad... My union took away are dental and optical and lowered are medical benefits.

But the non-union office workers still get it all. Who's making the sacrifice?

Try getting into a union where senority don't matter so that lazy ass that don't don't do crap doesn't get to keep his job before you.

to say that union work is better than non union work is a damn petty lie. the quality of work being done comes down to the individual doing it. ive seen both union and non union work that is top notch, and also total crap work.

if more people took more pride in their work, perhaps they could make an honest dollar. im the only employee left at a small non union plumbing outfit during this time of crisis, ive taken pay cuts just to keep my job. i dont sit there and ***** about stupid crap, and do quality work, cant say that about the rest who lost their job at my company.

All the ones that are gone are the ones that deserve to be. Most of the people that say they don't have a job due the this economy was out worked by someone else. don't worry about others, just worry about yourself. I have 9 years in and I am still working when people with 20 aren't.

There are about 800 members in my union but only about 80 working.

I'll just stay out of this debate, to many people have formed opinions with very little use of any wisdom at all.

I think otherwise. I have been with the Union for a few companies. I have also been with companies that had votes for Union and it was always voted against by a large margin.
I was always happier and had better benefiets without Union.

Not to sound rude, but to say people have formed opinions without using much wisdom is somewhat insulting. We try to keep that out of MFK.

The question is based 100% on opinion. Opinions arent right or wrong.
