How much Ammonia

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ammoina still. The nitrites are also riasing, but the ammonia seems to have reached a snag. I will check it and post after church. Just got all the feeding done.

Still up there. It doesn't seem to be changing. I cleaned a couple of canisters in the sump today. Hopefully it will add some bb to the filter.

It will drop. When you have sufficient bb, the ammonia will zero out in eight to twelve hours....that's when it got scary for me...it dropped so fast, I was afraid of starving the bb if I didn't add more ammonia!

I tried to find some aqua spira, but you can't even buy any in this town. Got some cheap substutue called cycle. Added it to the tank. I hope this will speed it up a bit.

You do want to add more as the nitrites are spiking, correct?

Add ammonia to keep ammonia level between 1 and 2 ppm (don't add any if your reading is higher than 1 ppm)

I think you mean BioSpira. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Produ...challpartial&Ntk=All&N=2004&Ntt=biospira&Np=1

Most fishkeepers have nothing good to say about Cycle, but many think that BioSpira which has been refrigerated may work. I dumped in a lot of Cycle into our tank (copious amounts) and that was our only source of bacteria (except for what's in the air)..it still took 28 days. The main thing is that our tank did cycle, and we've had virtually no problems ever since with our biological filtration.

The fact that you have nitrites indicates that the beneficial bacteria are colonizing in your filter.

I'm just waiting for things to change. I was hoping that this would turn around before I go on vacation. I guess that isn't going to happen. It is still not moving.
