how much do you guys TIP your waiter?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
in some restaurants, the waitress has to split a percentage of tips with busboys.

and why don't they go flip burgers? why do they choose to stay wait tables or bartend?

oh yea, probably because they still make more
So them making a decent living makes them what? Bad people?
They do a service for you and get paid half of minimum wage because you are expected to tip them if they do a good job.
But what ever, you are going to do what you want to do because that's what people like you do... only what you want to do.

Yo sumo-- I don't think you should blame waiters for expecting a tip. You should blame the system forin saying its ok to pay waiters $3 an hour and make the rest in tips. If they don't make good tips then no one could get by being a waiter.

Its not like Europe where they pay waiters a decent wage and hardly anyone tips over there. Waiters in the US need to get tips because otherwise they're making way way below minimum wage and everyone would quit being a waiter if no one tipped. Me personally I don't mind tipping but I won't tip if the waiter was rude or really bad. I also won't tip when I order to go and pick up the food myself. Some people take tipping too far imo but I keep it reasonable.

I tip a minimum of 20%, for a sit down meal, unless the service is REALLY bad. Generally I leave more. It isn't easy to be in food services, you deal with jerks all day long, on your feet, for a couple dollars an hour. Some would say it is by choice, but everyone needs to pay their bills. A job is a job is a job. Who knows if that server has a PHD, or has a very different story.

........
maybe for the entertainment of watching you relish steak a la spittle, every time you return after never tipping & probably being an extra demanding PITA customer, whose every vibe wreaks of smug condescension.

OR, maybe it's just the only work schedule that fits with available child care.
You'll never really know.

Sometimes a job is just a way to pay bills, any job with income is better than no job. This economy is rough. Sumo, do you still live at home?

Exactly what I was thinking, unless he goes somewhere new each time I'd be afraid to eat there again.

some restaurants post or publish clearly, that a specific % "gratuity" will be automatically added to the bill. So technically, the business does it, not the server.
