TIPS=To Insure Prompt Service

It's simple, your tip reflects the service that I received. If you want to be innatentive and rude then don't complain when you don't get much, but if you give good service then you'll get a good tip in return.

this is just my thought but i think it depends on the hourly pay of server.if its a low paying job great give them a tip.but when they go home with 200 dollars a night plus in tips plus their wage i dont leave a large tip.

Keep my glass full and checking in on my needs will always get you at least 20% from me. You have to work as a waiter/waitress to appreciate WHAT and WHO they deal with on an everyday basis.

penny pincher. go to mcdonalds and pizza hut

/sarcasm

...or get your food at the dollar store.

i do this. i kill for some nuggets. /not sarcasm

also, one time a waiter chased after us for his tip. we went back to the food place and we showed him, it was under the tea pot. he must have felt like a jackhole making a scene like that. really though, demanding tip?

another one is i never liked "fine" dining. i just went to one recently and ordered a shrimp scampi. that crud was like 22 whole dollars and i dont know why i bought it. when it came i was so diss a point did did. it was on a big as plate and the food was in the middle. it was pasta and i would never order pasta. the middle was about 3 inches worth of food and about 2 inches deep. the plate must have been 15 inches. food was like unflavored and the noodles pasta was junk. i think the tip came out to be like 10%. i would have but its the people around you that do it.

STRONG SLAP TO MY FACE.

As long as my Dr. Pepper doesn't go dry, my waiter/waitress will get a VERY handsome tip. Generally about 35%. They're working for a living and I appreciate it. I can afford it. Why not?

the thread is so old with so many pages but i think the point everyone is trying to make is why limit that to waiter/waitress/bartenders/barbers though?

why does it not extend to other workers who provide a service and make minimum wage?

i appreciate the guy who went through the parking lot and collected all those carts so i don't have to brave the elements to get my own cart? no tips. i appreciate the shoe sales person who runs back and fourth a billion times grabbing a billion shoes in a billion different sizes for you to buy one or two over and over again. no tips. etc etc

If the service is great I tip well...20-30%+. If it sucks my tip reflects that. Restuarants/bars arent the only people that enjoy tips. I work at a marina in the summer and our customers tip as well. Its not a bad idea to tip your contractor, car repairman, barber, lift operator(ski resort, not always $, that fresh donut or cookie etc in the am is great), and so on. And their wage shouldnt reflect your tip either. Its the service they are providing that we should be appreciative of.

Waiters and waitresses make about 1/2 the minimum wage in hourly rate. It is expected for them to make up the rest in tips. I go to a restaurant to be waited on...if they do that well they get 20%. If they do that exceptionally, they may get a little more, if they do it poorly, they will definitely get less. Let's face it, they are not making themselves rich waiting tables.
