how much do you guys TIP your waiter?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I go with the standard 15% if the service was standard, maybe 18% if it was stellar .... 10% if it wasn't great, and I have no trouble leaving zero if there were several major issues with the waiter and/or food.

Bartenders will get 20% if they are smart enough to get water or start to slow us down/cut us off. I'm partial to not making an arse of myself and living, so I do appreciate those that do it.

And this is living in one of the few states that does have the same min. wage for tip positions as it does for regular folks.

I look at it this way: I can make just about anything I'm going to eat at home, and I can certainly get sloshed at home with better tasting drinks than most 'tenders around here can make. I'm going out for the experience, to socialize. If you are hurting that experience, you aren't going to get a tip. If you help out with that experience when you don't have to, you deserve a little extra.

If we go out to eat I generally tip 15% for breakfast & lunch, 20% for dinner.

lol, if you can spend 1000 on food, then complain about tip you need to be penny pinching in other areas, (here's a hint, dont spend 1000 on a meal)

nope, its my beliefs and wont give you that amount.

a tip is a reflection on the quality of the service.
A traditional (old school) tip for bad service is $0.01. but it needs to be seriously bad service ( such as once when a roach walked across our table during the meal)
Generally in NY the rule of thumb is double the tax as a minimum. NYC tax is 8.25%...so tip =16.5% or more

I've been a Waiter from the very high end places to Your traditional coney Island Joints. I met My wife waiting tables while we were both in college. every Sat. we would have a contest to see who made the most $. I used to bank, and talk trash the whole time. She would work from 9to 9 every Sat. and I would work 12 to 9. I consistently outearned Her. I still talk trash about it. Having said that. I sit down thinking I will tip 20% and I make deductions from there. A server can either maintain a decent tip or

I recently left a $20 tip for a 7 dollar meal. I wen't solo to a place that specializes In breakfast. I sat at the front counter and watched the Waitresess ignored me as they rushed to tend to Their current tables and other Customers who arrived after I. I didn't raise a fuss. the news had a few worthy stories So I just read away while trying to make eye contact whenever someone crossed my field of vision. I maybe sat for 15 minutes before a Girl who was obviously at the bottom of the pecking order arrived for her shift and Immediately began taking my order. She passed me My plates soon as they were up, and made sure my coffee stayed warm throughout.

LOl! She gave me the bill and I left a 20 on the counter while I went to the register to pay. I laughed inside as I watched all the old Hens hover and eyeball the bill. My waitress played into my hands and brought the Money to me and said "I can't make change for this, so You will have to break it at the register." I replied. " No, that's for You, thanks for the excellent service." After paying my bill I then went and filled out a comment card reaming the other Server's. About a week later I recieved a $25 gift card in the mail. I never returned... damage done.

The general consensus when waiting tables is to cater to a certain demographic and ignore/disregard others. I took pride In bucking the trend that day.

^ very cool I like that. Great story.

who on earth made it acceptable to pay under minimum wage and allow tips to make up for it. waiters should be payed by the employers. this goes with all tip jobs. let me spend $1000 on my food and you would expect to see my $100-200 tip.

i dont think so.

Been wondering about this guy. Thought he got caught in a troll trap or something. Where u been?
