How to fiberglass Plywood Tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well when my grandpa and i were making a kayak we started by laying down the cloth/fiberglass and then spread the epoxy onto it and then spread till the cloth was clear. and like everyone else said get everything in front of you before you start and have a plan. it also helps to get a partner

oh and i would cut the drain hole before you glass it cause i think if you try to drill the glass it could crack and that would be a problem

iv never had a problem drilling through fiberglass. Either way pre drill or not your still going to have to trim it. Id personally rather have a perfect circle through and through

yea im taking yours and zennzzos advice, and drilling the holes before i start fiberglassing
Do a practice hole too, on some scrap so you can get the hole size dialed in...

I'd glass all the way out the viewing panel too...you'll be able to smooth it out...(feather it out on the outside)
You can router a lip on the inside edge of the cutout and fiberglass it so the glass fits in a recess...

What is the "ounce" rating?
Or better yet put up a quarter next to it for referance...
That roving is great for the corners, but the matting will build up thicker easier..

Looks like what 6oz.? Great for the corners in like 10" wide strips, you know like 5" on the side and 5" on the front, rolled into the corners, and use like 2 sizes up (thicker) of matting...and go 3 plys...

Dont know what oz. it is, lol. Will see what i can get, maybe order a roll or thicker stuff.

Any suggestos mixing and pouring containers?
