behind my iMac.... Southampton UK.
hey guys, i want to get a 96"x36"x30" into my study but it wont go throu the door? opening is only 27" wide.... so how do i get it in?

1st option, take window out and replace. i have no idea if this is possible, its pvc double glazing, ideally i just get some dude to whip it out and back in it couple of hours? is this possible? any ideas how much it would cost?

2nd option is to strip the tank down and rebuild but its nearly 350g and i cant afford to get this wrong i my parents house.... so how easy is it? how much would it cost to have a tank builder do it? and anyone recommend anyone, in the uk? preferably on south coast....

3rd option, dismantle the internal door frame its wood and shouldn't prove that much hassle but again got no idea where to start....

4th unmentioned idea if anyone has one????

i got a month to figure this and make a stand and sump, so really need to get it figured so im ready..... the only reason i went soo big was it is 2nd hand and 4th the price of the custom 7'x2.5'x2.5' i was getting.....

How about an alternate location like the backyard or garage?

Is there a backdoor? Width? A window is doable but troublesome with size and weight. Newer windows have a couple screws and will pull out easy but, needs to be caulked and insulated on install. Also, as a parent I wouldn't be to keen to my kids doing home improvement. Might be time to bring dad into the picture. And, being said parents house, you better come up with an exit strategy on how your going to get it out when you eventually leave. Don't mess with a door frame. You get that puppy out of alignment and the door doesn't shut or lock. Your up a creek but, hmm, whats the width of the doorframe with the door removed from the hinges? I've done that a few times. Let us know. And good luck!

dude im 22, but still not doing it my self... i got £250 to get the tank in the room, yes it will come throu the lounge patio doors, and lounge internal double doors but the internal door to study is the prob ill get some pics hang on....

i live in england, shed is a possibility but heating would prob be a nightmare....

pics of the door frame: its just the internal lip of the frame that would need to be moved, the bit that the door closes against.... gap is 28" with it there and 30.5" without.... pics are crap but should help a bit.... 28022008610.jpg

remove the doorjams.... if you pull the entire door frame out you should have enough room...

prybar and hammer take door off hinges and then carfully remove the wood...

Phone a local builder/glazier about the window... Shouldnt be more than a tonne.
