how to get it in.... for cheap....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would remove the doorframe. Like Nic said, first take off the hinges. Next remove the trim (everything needs to come off in the reverse order of how it was installed. If your door had a premade casement you will have to remove it in one piece - pull the nails and it should slide out. If the doorjam was framed in place. pull the nails and remove it one piece at a time.

It is important to keep things square when you put it back together, usually there are a bunch of shims between the studs and the casement, you may want to draw a rough diagram with some measurements. If you aren't too confident of your carpentry skills, spending some of that cash to hire a contractor for a few hours might be the best idea.

Good Luck, sounds like an awesome tank! :)

If you have the money, call a handy man. It's not a hard job, but if not done proberly you will have problems later.

ok thanks guys so i geuss next step is call round and get some quotes for a. the door frame and b. the window and see whats cheapest, if i do door frame ill rpb have to scaf tower and chain block the tank over the bank wall too, so window would be easiest.

I vote window too.

You can lift it up thru the window ...right?

Could take 6 very strong guys to do this or do you have some other way of lifting it w/o stressing the tank?

How about an estimate from a moving company too (that is used to moving heavy objects like pianos).

Make sure you take pix of the move for us too ;)

I just wish you luck with everything, hopefully you get it done right with no problems... and the dimensions you gave on that tank sounds more like around the 400-450 gal. Post some pics once everything is done... would love to see that tank!

If you choose to do anything by yourself, break out the digital camera and take lots of pics, so you know exactly what goes where when you go to put it back together.

thanks, i haven't calculated it myself just going by the ebay listing.

hmmm... spoke to few people about the window and it seems that if it came out i would need a whole new unit??? seems crazy but if that is how it is.... puc of window:
kits 53" accross....

access to the back is possible but the tank would need to be sat upright to turn a corner.... i live on a millatry base and can rustle up 20 or so squadies to help with the move... heres more pics of the back access route, gate is 30.5" wide opening and alley is 33" at tightest piont.... its goin to be tricky to say the least, tank comes with a wooden plinth, so maybe some roller system under the plinth to bring tank down the alley?
