I hope it dosent breed close to youre place cause they will return every year. at my last neighborhood the city steped in and sprayed some sort of grape smelling gas to get rid of all the heron that was nesting in the trees its was real bad i would find dead frogs and fish on my car in the morning.

Having worked at a pond store I have seen all kinds of things. A fake heron will work until the real bird realizes it doesnt move at all, they will become used to it (they are smarter than you think). Your best bet would be something called a Scarecrow, it is a motion activated sprinkler. They are kind of expensive but they work very well. Good luck

Yes, I believe something in the motion sensored area would work well, maybe a loud horn or flash of light?:nilly:

get a big gar..... they will leave them alone or someing thats got teeth and aggressive as hell.
amia calvas would be a good one too but gar are more armored, they wouldnt help the situation tho theyd just eet the fish

pet owl.... pet gator

or chicken wire tent structure.

i love blue herons but youre fish are prolly pretty expensive
lol owls, i envy you, i find owls to be freaking awesome and actually wanted one as a pet, too bad they dont make good pets rofl.
PS an owl would do a killer job (no pun intended)

I had luck scaring away a Great Blue Heron from my pond using a heron decoy. They are territorial and will NOT land at a small goldfish pond that already has a heron at it. And to the person who said they'll get use to it, be creative and move the heron decoy to different locations around the pond everyday. ;)

Have you ever been up close to a Blue Heron? They're over 4 feet tall! I doubt too many owls would mess with one. When I worked at a Raptor Rehab center we got Blue Heron in one day that was found all tangled in fishing line. I'll tell you what, that was one big, angry bird!
