how to identify liquid kok from hard kok?????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Why'd they cut that fish's head open?

I have had and still do have high quality fh. When I see their big FAT heads squish against the side of the tank I smile. The genes have to be there period. If you dont take proper care of your fh the head wont grow as well as it should period.
Lots of bad and false info given out in this hybrid forum lately. Seems like you need to do some research. Like why and when a pure species male cichlid grows a nuchal hump. That is where our fh come from.
Maybe you want mfk hybrid section to be full of fantasy and misinformation but I dont.

And it seems to me you havent even read the links that you yourself posted to try and prove your point lol.
Except for the 90% 10% phooey.

Read post #43 in the thread of the link you posted.
It is bizzare to think a fh grows a huge useless muscle on its head.

The red in the first kok is results of antioxidant cartenoid astaxanthin. It is a color that is stored in the fishes body biologically. The first fish is a red dragon and the bottom one is more of a kamfa that body can't store the color thus has no color on its kok. I believe these fishes are dissected to learn more about the fishes anatomy. Or for food purposes.

LOL if you could even research you would know that post if full of bs. First off hes a guest and anything he says should be taken with a gain of salt.

He cant even spell it correctly, its Carotenoid* astaxanthin and it affects the pigment in the skin and it does not penetrate the flesh fully. Take for an example crabs. They get this pigment from carotenoid astaxanthin and their flesh isnt fully red, the skin of flesh is and the rest of the flesh is white. Your knowledge is all he said she said.

Oh,I was thinking it was for a procedure of some kind.I didn't think that it was dead in that photo.

Im not going to argue with you anymore. Next time my silk or srd beg for food and let me squish their heads I will ask them to flex for me lol.

This is untrue, a flowerhorn is 90% genetics and the other 10% is water quality, food, a how often it is fed. You cant make a low quality fh a high quality fh just because you take "proper care" of it. A stunner will be a stunner regardless of conditions unless its drastic. The head IS NOT FAT. Its protein, how are you going to argue a picture of a flowerhorn's head cut open? You think that red meat is fat? Its protein or muscle, there is a small sack of fat under the kok but that is so minimal.

Look at the fh's food that claim hump growth, how much protein does it have compared to regular fish food?n Okkio claims upwards of +60% protein and why? For muscle development which is the key aspect of the fh's hump.

Where are you coming up with that a fh's kok is made from fat?
One of the main point of macro-molecules that you learn in biology is protein isn't stored, it is used. If protein isn't used it will waste away and be stored as fat. There is no reason for a fish to have a giant ball of protein on its head. If it was truly protein, it would have wasted away. All energy STORED in a animal's body is stored as fat (lipids). And plus protein is hard and it is very heavy. If it was truly protein (and it miraculously didn't waste away) it would way a ton and prevent any movement, and the water koks are soft and jelly-like not hard like protein. So in conclusion... it's fat.

The bs in this section of mfk has to stop. I keep thinking of new hybrid fans reading nonsense and getting turned off of the hobby.
