how to identify liquid kok from hard kok?????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Why dont you do an experiment with YOUR water kok fh. Let it live with crap water, crap food, tankmates etc and lets see how relying on your fishes superior genes works out for the poor thing. I prefer my fish thriving, I can see the pay off when my fish are able to express their superior genetics.

That isn't what we are arguing, the genetics work regardless. Its never anymore or less than the 90% to 10% ratio. By your logic, I wish I could call it logic.. The fish will surpass genetic limits because of the care given to it was at the optimal conditions. Isn't that correct? You said genetics will suffer because conditions aren't optimal so the reverse will be true would it not?

No no no. A fh will not be able to express those genes if not given the care it needs. You must not have ever actually kept a water kok fh or you would know they are more sensitive than other fh. Your 90%-10% thing doesnt pan out and I dont care where or who it originated from. It is more like 100% genetics and 100% care. If that percentage doesnt make sense to you thats because you dont know anything about genetics or fishkeeping. Both aspects are important and I know that because I have kept and am keeping fh.

So lets use an example, as us humans. If someone is going to be tall there going to be tall. As long as they have the bare necessities they will grow to be tall correct? So a tall person is going to be tall no matter what he eats. For a fish the bare necessities are water and food. As long as they have those two things their genetics determines their hump. The water quality will have to be so poor the fish wouldn't be able to live in it to affect the genetics.
WHAT! That is hogwash! In order to survive an organism will stop doing anything excessive if in dire enough conditions. A hump of fat is excessive. The kok will go away WAY before the fish is going to die no matter the genetics. That's just like saying "a person will grow always tall if it is in his genes, unless he is going to die". A body will stunt its height far before the conditions are severe enough to die. Genes affect an organism's phenotype, yes, but genetics won't activate an excessive phenotype if it is in a poor condition.

Why do you think most fh keepers carefully groom their fh, much more than other fish? I mean kept in tanks by themselves, excellent water quality, good food, etc? Its so the fh can reach its full potential, able to express those genetics.

Its money for breeders and sellers. To get that extra 10% that can make a 9 out of 10 flowerhorn to a 10 out of 10 leading it to a master piece leading the price to sky rocket. Why else? For us average people? To get the extra 10% too, the only difference is that we care about the health of the fish so its just an added bonus. I'm saying even if the fh has a crappy environment it will bloom into a master piece.

You ever wonder how koi breeders leave their koi in muck filled frozen over ponds in the winter and there still stunners and worth a mind boggling amount? Its their genetics paired with their natural instinct to hibernate. Why do Japanese koi always have better colors on their fish even though they aren't fed for 4 out of 12 months while united states koi are fed year around?

Read the bare necessities part.
If a person is living in a place with all the food and water needed, but breathing air that is full of pollution, health will fail. When health fails, things that are not needed (like a kok) will disappear. It isn't advantageous to have a lump of fat on your head when you take in ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates with every breathe.

And this is incorrect. As long as they have the bare necessities they will grow to be tall correct? There are a million and one things that will stunt a person that doesn't include food. Stress, poor air, constant injury etc. Same goes for fish. I'll get a more official list for things that stunt organisms besides food if I remember.

Except it is in their genes to hibernate and not eat well for months. You are comparing a natural fish that has been surviving in frozen ponds 1/3 of the year for centuries (if not longer) with a man-made hybrid that only knows the constant feeding and water quality that human give the fish. They aren't comparable in those terms.

There is no extra 10% man. A fh not properly kept will never be an mp. Stunted, sickly, and short lived.

look to china they have lived polluted air for over a decade and there doing fine.
