All Cichlids can be Taxonomically broken down into Tribes, and here may be the reason some breed regularly across continental divides, and some don't.
The genus Parachromis (where jags are found) is from the tribe Therapsini
The Andinoacara (where GTs are found) is from the tribe Cichlasomatini,
The tribal separation of these clades (tribes) may be a key (or not) to inbreeding
However divided geographically
I have heard about cross breeding between the Uruguayan and Argentine genus Australoheros (tribe Therapsini) with the Central American genus Amatitlania (also Therapsini)
Just as may be the case with Mesoheros festae (also from the tribe) Therapsini.
And although I mention it, I find creating hybrid mutts abhorrent to future cichlid diversity, leading eventually to the creation of future generic sameness.
