How to make water changes fun?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
having lots of fun during water changes caused me some floods.
now I watch the tanks refill.

with my old 500g it would take about 2 hrs to empty half and another hour to fill it. i used to play a few games of COD inbetween, but overflowed the tank way too many times and started to pay attention

Seeing as how the biggest tank I have is only 150 gallons and doesn't really take much time to change out the water, I usually just listen to music or watch tv.

I flooded one of my tanks for the first time in 5 years the other day because I decided to sand down a stand I've been working on while the tank was filling. The sad part is I was in the same room but mistook the sound of water pouring down the side panel as the sound from a spraybar lol. Luckily I caught it after a minute so only a few gallons spilled out but I'll be keeping a closer eye on the python from now on. I usually just browse mfk during wc's and look up every few mins to check the water level

I normally also set a timer. I know it takes about 17-18 minutes to fill my tank when I change half of the water. I set a timer for 15 minutes and I've never had an issue.

Just do it the old fashioned bucket way if your tank is less than 100 gallons. You guys are all girlypants :)

I love doing water changes no matter how long it takes me with the 5 tanks I have in the room. Just the feeling of having my fish tanks fresh and ammonia etc free makes it fun for me. And I don't do buckets anymore, I actually have a hole on my screen on my window and have it all siphoned in the alley of my house. No more full bucket and empty bucket.
