is there an easy/relativly cheap way to house a 1'+ catfish for 4-6 weeks?

Those are hard plastic sidewalls with a liner, a cat's not going anywhere.

cheap=not as much as a 360 gallon tank
I'm not real fond of the idea of the kiddie pool, as I have small kids myself, NO WAY I could keep them out of an indoor pool with a toy like my catfish in it....I didn't mean cheap as in $10, although that would be a great idea if I had somewhere to hide it, just cheap enough to keep the cats until the finish work on our tanks is done cause they just don't look comfortable in my 55 right now.

my uncle has a 55 gal plastic drum that he set up with a filter and air pump to store bait fish over long times

the largest rubbermaid I think you can buy is a 50ish gallon tub. something MUCH more robust is a farm animal water trough (by rubbermaid actually) they hold their shape when full of water, and are quite large. the Local Big Al's uses 3 of them (about 2'deep, 3' across, 4' long) to house koi in their store. They aren't cheap, but they are cheaper than a tank!

You could also look into injection molded tool totes for trucks. Some of those are quite large - but then, they are also expensive.

Will your LFS board him for a while? maybe a plywood box with a pond liner? bathtub? ;)

If you use a kiddie pool or stock tank make sure it is fish safe. Sometimes the stock tanks have algaecides in them. Another option is those use 4' cube tanks that some food items are shipped in. If you can find them I believe they are 300g or so. Pond folks use them for settling tanks.
