lol that could get pretty messy

yes the shop vac works awsome or a carpet shampooer not realy that messy kint of a pain if it was me i would empty the tank down all the way to the bottom scoop th sand then use the shop vac or shompooer to get whats left

I used a plastic dust pan to remove the bulk of the 350 Lbs. I had in my 240. I then used a clear 3/4" hose to vacuum out the remaining sand as part of the water change. It really didn't take to long.

ok well now that i know how to do it, how the heck do you rinse sand properly? lol

You're outside. Few inches of sand in bucket. Hose in bottom of bucket. Turn on water. Plunge hose up and down through sand. Water will overflow out of bucket. When water is running clear sand is clean.

Repeat.

A lot.

I put small amounts of sand (maybe a pound or two) in a small bucket and rinse it in the sink. Swirl it around and drain, then repeat until the water is clear. Like Petelockwood said, a lot. The outside hose would work great, but you may not have one hooked up right now in Alberta.
What kind of sand are you going to use?

no idea i was thinking of something like the peace river sand from caribsea but is that too small still?

I have Caribsea sunset gold, much smaller than the peace river.
