Paver sand from Home Depot/Lowe's works fine and doesn't get tossed like pool filter sand. It is larger grain.
A section of 1" pvc pipe connected to a pool hose will move that sand fast. Put a fine sponge prefilter on a submersible water pump and pump the water right back into the tank. Put a 32 gallon (new) trash can on a roller dolly and start your siphon. Having your pump on a power strip so you can turn it on and off as needed helps. Also, have the pump about half way up in the garbage can so it doesn't get covered with sand. Prefilter is MANDATORY otherwise you'll trash your pump.
