If you saw conos for $0.50 even though you have to buy 200 (that is a lot of congon for even a large store) that is better then I have seen them.

Ya wholesales usually only sell in bulk.

Heres another example.

I got this froma wholesale company that sent me ther eprice list.

African pike for 2.00 and you have you buy min 20
And at TFd it is 100.00
And at store not sure havent seen one.

small motoro stingray wholesale price should be around $40-$50 each

I know a person (locally) that import stingray (flower, hystrix, tiger) which you rarely seen in store for a decent to cheap price... But have to wait till the wet season over first

I ordered Four 4-5" Hystrix Stingray for $300 (still waiting...) ^^

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Congo Tetra is not the best choice of selling imo...
should try goldfish (not feeders) They are the number one seller here....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Also exotic fish like weird looking or MEAN killing machine... Those are THE HARDEST to sell >.>;;

Ive only seena bout 5-8 wholesale comapnies prices. Still havent found any that specialise in stringrays.Good luck with your stingrays.

-------------------------------
The congo tetra was jsut an example of whole sale prices compared to vendors and stores.
----------------------------

But around her ei think exotic fish would be a good market since only 1 fish store around here. Nothing to rare. Once in a while they got some rare things.

Thanks for your post!

you will save tons of money importing directly instead of going through tfd or the likes.
for instance one of the importers who's lists i have sells Tiger Oscars (i used a common fish) for .14 cents

Ya i know that. Only time i might buy from vendors if i cant find a wholesale company who can sell me a fish or import it then ill buy from a vendor.

I remember a website of a wholesalecomapny from coloubia they had a grat tetra selection and they were like 4-10 cents each. But they only sold them in quanties of400-900 for common fish and less for more expensive fish 1.00+

I know that the term wholesale refers to bulk, but when you go to a store do you offten see 200 congos. They are usaly stcked in smaller quantaties more like 50 at a time so you don't tie up tank space on a fish that is not a huge seller.

If anyone wants to see some prices from a wholesale company pm and ill try to send them to you.

That is a bad idea if wholesalers find out you are doing this you will get black listed.

then buy 900 of them .. for $36 and if your lucky, the survival rate would be 50%+... 450 fishes sell them for $1 each, you make $450 - $36 = $414 - shipping ($100) = $314... so approx $314 profit :D

If they are neon tetra for $1 each, they would go FAST... :D

You dont need a large store, just cramp them all in a small tank with lot of filtration and they will be fine... Because if you got a large quantity, you will want them to go quick, then your price would be low... and people will come and clean them FAST... ^^

and if you have extra in stocks... you can always sell them to me as 10cents.. I got some large predators that always like a few fish as treat :D

I'm a mom & pop shop & been in business for 17years & in the business for 25 years & hobbyist for life. In todays world you have to be a nich in your area & market. It may take some time to get there & will not get rich over night. Most of what is left (shops)do it for the love of it or should be doing it for the love of it & not plan on making a boat load of money. From the manufacture, exporter, wholesaler to the retailer & even the customer are in it make a living & provide for their familys etc.. I pretty much have seen all fases of the business. Directly bringing in livestock is risky & expensive. I know pretty much what everything in this business cost but I still buy from the middle men knowing they are taking the risk more then me. Its how you want to spread the money or tie it all up on a few fishes. My last import/collecting trip I lost over a $1000. in fish in less then 12 hours right down the toilet! Lost more over time also. So in turn I could have bought some of this stuff from a importer/farm etc.. & actually paid the same or less after the losses added up.
As a m&p you need to focus on something either all salt water & thats it or odd ball store with a side of everyday stuff. We are known all over for cichlids. We have our own hatchery & produce much of our own. I tried salt a couple times but never worked for us. Tried selling some rare cats Stingrays but not working plus many right now do not have money for the high end stuff. I always say in business you have to keep reinventing the wheel to go forward. Or two steps back to go a step forward. Have a plan & then a back up plan just in case.
Customer service & knowledge will go a long way also.

gotta go work (everyday of the year) it never ends.
