This question goes to those of you with tanks around the 300g mark or bigger.
How do you do such large water changes. I do a 50% water change on my 150g by syphoning half the water out the window and then topping up the tank with buckets of mixed hot and cold water, each dosed with de-chlorinator.

use my fx5's to exhaust water....150gal takes about 5 min....

faucet to refill predosed tank with prime

I do not have a 300 or bigger, but it would make things much easier on you if you got a Python.

buy or make a python.

makes you wonder how you ever ran the bucket brigade for 50% WC's on a 250g tank:eek:

Python's take way too long imo. I take a 1" diameter hose and siphon the water out the window, takes about 3-4 minutes where a python would take 15-20. I fill with 5 gallon buckets that I fill in the bath tub which has much greater flow, this takes about 10-15 minutes, a python would take a 1/2 hour....

anything over 120 gallons crys out for a constant drip system. WELL worth the time, effort, and expence to set up IMO.

I thought you meant get rid of my fish and buy a snake. I was thinking are you crazy.
Feel a bit stupid now, what is a python and how does it work? Is it used to refill the tank because emptying the tank is not a problem.

If your not using the python to empty the tank you might as well just adapt a hose to attach to the kitchen sink and pre dose with prime as has been suggested.

I just use a sump pump and a hose, I don't really care how long it takes. I normally just grab a beer and watch the tank drain and then put bucket in the tub and throw the sump pump in there, grab another beer and watch it fill up. If it's in the morning replace beer with coffee.
