I just use a sump pump and a hose, I don't really care how long it takes. I normally just grab a beer and watch the tank drain and then put bucket in the tub and throw the sump pump in there, grab another beer and watch it fill up. If it's in the morning replace beer with coffee.

Wait a minute, you're telling me my breakfast beer isn't a socially acceptable thing?

thecoolguy,
use my fx5's to exhaust water....150gal takes about 5 min....
Your FX5 is putting out 1,800GPH. Are you using 220VAC?

I just drop a pump in the tank and run a line over to the sink in the garage to drain the tank takes about 10-15 inutes and to refill about 15-20 minutes and thats on a 240 doing a 60% WC

I thought you meant get rid of my fish and buy a snake. I was thinking are you crazy.
Feel a bit stupid now, what is a python and how does it work? Is it used to refill the tank because emptying the tank is not a problem.

Pythons are magical!!!! Ignore the fact that this link is from Petsmart...

Basically, they attach to your kitchen faucet to drain AND refill your tank! Easy peasy!

on my 400gal, i do water changes just like you do on 10gallon tanks. i gravel vac n syphon 40% of my water out into the grass and plants. then i just turn on the hose and fill the tank back up. add enough "prime" dechloranator then watch my fishies enjoy fresh new water :)

its not as hard as u think. its just a bigger tank thats all.

I drain with a siphon (out the window into the garden) and fill with a garden hose. I add Prime before, during, or after adding the water. Been doing it this way for years.

I haven't used buckets since like 1987.

:ROFL:You sound like my husband!

I have a question for all you guys who add the water directly to your tank. I was under the impression it was a good idea to age the water. Not positive why, but I thought that aging somehow helps kill chlorine, and also tap water is high in CO2 (please correct me if Im wrong, this is total hearsay), and allowing the water to sit lets the CO2 bubble up. Although the CO2 is no problem on its own, its presence affects the ph, and if you add the water directly to your tank, the fish will experience a quickly changing ph as the CO2 fizzes out, and obviously stable ph is the goal. Anyone who knows if what i just said is right or if it is total bs please comment.
