Huge water changes

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Also, I use a garbage can to do my water changes. I fill it by putting a pump in the sink and just letting it fill up to a level I have marked off as the right level, I put in some prime, let it sit overnight (theres a heater in there), and the next day I gravel vac the same amount of water using a python, and when Im done I just use the pump from before to fill the tank from the garbage can. If Im wrong about the aging thing, although I dont think I am, I guess I could just go right from the tap as long as I had the temp right. Anyone?

Aged water is great, but if you dose your tank before you add tap water it should be fine too.

Tap water is pressurized so it does release certain gases into the water. However, this isn't a problem as long as you don't have a billion bubbles clinging to everything (which is supersaturation and not cool) - the CO2 should just evaporate.

i store all my water in 45 gallon rubber maid tubs but i also have room for that... its always better to premix water... python is good get the fx5

aging for 24 hours will allow the Cl to dissipate, but I'm not sure if you have chloramine. however, if you're doing a very slow, constant drip, you won't have to dechlor since it will be such a small amount at a time, but when you do a large water change, the Cl concentration will be much higher and you will have to get rid of it. again, I'm not sure about that if you have chloramine.

I say still go with the python !!!! Who cares about the amount of time, it just gives you more time to be on MFK... Do like i do just sit on here looking at threads like this one and doing W/C at the same time..LOL
:nilly: :nilly: NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!! :nilly: :nilly:
That WAS a good idea, until I got sucked into threads and heard water trickling on the floor....it's a bad idea to watch tv, talk on the phone, or even get on MFK while using the python. I've emptied my 55 down to about an inch of water once, and overflowed my tanks a few times before I learned that one.

I use two 35G trash cans and one pump for large water changes.

- Takes 6 minutes to fill the trash cans.
- Add Prime and aerate for at least an hour
- Takes 12 minutes with pump to drain 70G into sump pump hole
- Takes 15 minutes to pump 70G fresh water back into tank.
