Humble Beginnings?

These stories are awesome guys! Another reason I got into fish was from fishing, I always saw the fish as mysterious so I figured why not get a whole tank of them?

My dad always had a tank, when I was a kid I always loved messing with the tests (I had no idea what it meant!). I always cleaned the tank (the totally wrong way!) dumping all the water out, rocks and all. then I would buy him new fish and totally overstock his tiny 10 gallon and wonder why they never survived! It took me over 5 years after I left their home before I finally got my own tank. My hubby bought me a tiny 1.5 gallon that quickly turned into a feeder tank as we bought a 55 gallon shortly after so we could actually have some fish. I got my husband totally hooked and we LOVE our needlefish and dinosaur bircher. We ended up having to buy a 10 gallon feeder tank. After seeing some other predators we want (arowana & wolf fish) we realized we need a bigger tank before we can buy. So we found a 200 gallon and here we go again!

^ I see its your first post, so welcome to the addiction...

x3!

My dad, too, always had tanks. But what really got me going was the betta. So many colors and sad myths to bust. I was a warrior from the start! Now I don't have bettas this moment, but they're still on the menu for sure.

The centerpieces at my wedding were vases filled with water and lillies. We put betta fish in the water. I expected people to take the fish but they didn't. We ended up with 7 betta fish. I enjoyed the fish, but knew little about them. I bought a juvenile electric yellow cichlid and put him in a small vase of water like the bettas and I couldn't figure out why he kept getting sick! That started the learning process and addiction. I am now breeding bettas and almost have my 500 gallon tank set up!

Hm, I had a 20 gal as a kid, but I don't remember it well. My passion started three years ago with a disastrously kept 10 gallon with an unfed otto cat (didn't last long), 6 danios, a black mollybeast who killed two of the three scissor tail rasboras. I have one fish from that disaster still, I changed his name to Survivor ;P I since adopted a friends unwanted L021, who is my favorite fish, an angelfish, an acara and two orangehead geos in a 55. I'm working on upgrading to a 125 for my pleco as we speak :D

My best friend had a water garden with gold fish. I loved thoes goldfish. They had names and we would play with them. Well we would put bugs on a leaf and send then out then the goldfish would go after them. We were weird kids.

I wanted to keep fish in my room. So when I was 15 I got my first 5gal fish tank with some mollys that would breed like crazy. I also had a betta in a 1gal tank. The betta fish are what I was addicted to for many years. Now cichlids are my new addiction.
