No one in the U.S. REALLY needs to hunt for the meat. Of course nearly all hunters either eat or donate the meat.

I must say, hunting is VERY exciting. There is nothing like sitting in your stand for hours motionless when suddenly the buck of your dreams cautiously steps into view. Your heart is beating so hard you swear the deer can hear it. The buck steps behind a tree and you draw your bow or click the safety off on your rifle. Its 20 degrees outside but the sweat is dripping off of your forehead....aim....BOOOM. You can barely climb out of your stand cause your knees are so shakey and weak!

i think hunting is a fun sport, dont see anything wrong in that. and yeah, i dont think this thread will last too long

I don't "need" to hunt for meat because I can just go to the store and buy it, but for those who don't make a ton of money, there's nothing like coming home to a freezer full of meat, that can last all year, for really not a lot of money (tags, processing, equipment),

Oh, and your story about hunting makes me want to run out in the field right now!! There is nothing like it!!!

is hunting classed as a sport? that kind of makes me feel sick....

i'm torn with what to think....i would never do it myself but i try and understand how others feel but when i think of the words "fun" and "sport" it makes it sort of egotisital and unnecessary.

Since everyone says this thread won't last, I better post now.:nilly:

I think that hunting non-endangered animals is fine as long as you eat what you kill. I shot a deer back in high school and I've killed a few ducks, but it really doesn't excite me too much. I do love to fish and crab!

People that hunt primarily for trophies bother me, it seems pretty disrespectful towards life in general to kill something for the purpose of hanging it on a wall.

yeah its considered a sport. and i agree with dan, as longs as it something thats not endangered and youre doing it legally, then i dont see a problem with it.

and it has nothing to do with ego or wanting to be a tough guy. Not much different than fishing IMO (catch and take home, not catch and release)

There is nothing wrong with trophy hunting. All you are doing is killing on older animal that is going to die soon anyway. The meat is still utilized.

The ONLY type of hunting where I would not kill the biggest I found is Alligator and Alligator Snapping Turtle hunting. Unlike a deer that lives 6 years max, the chances of a huge old alligator or turtle outliving me AFTER I passed up the chance for a kill, is just amazing to me and I couldnt bring my self to kill such an ancient beast.

Now young turtles and gators....thats fair game!!

turtle soup?
