Nice, love the pictures....how about some of the Bagarius suchus? ;)

Suchus, not yet, haven't gotten to that country yet :)

Here is a school of vittatus.

Here is a school of forskalli from Nigeria, notice the slender body with dark black stripes.

Coloration is not the absolute determination factor, since keeping fish in different colors tanks, substrate can have drastic effects on their coloration.

My personal experience with this genus:

Vittatus when viewed from above, have a shorter head, but the width of the head of a same the same length is greater than that of a goliath. It is easily distinguished from above.

Forskalli are easily set apart by their smaller mouth, and slender body.

As far as jaw lenght and teeth showing, I've seen some vittatus with larger mouth than others, within the same group, same size, and same applies to goliaths. I've kept goliaths in smaller tanks and larger tanks, the ones in smaller tanks that were fed a lot of food, tend to grow taller, and shorter snouth compared to ones kept in larger tanks. I also have a few frozen speciemens, which I will take pictures of and look into their mouth structure to find other supporting evidences.

I think he means that they are now available to more than just a few people in the US

Good info hopefully I will need it some day

gud info...

Very nice pics and info Wes, but what is this new species your talking about? These fish have been around a long time.

it may not be a new species, but its different than all three listed above in my post. Its a little different from each one, and from a new location, in the Far East, they're calling it, the giant tiger, saying that it grows very fast and very large. I'll update when they come in.

thanks for the info wes Hydrocynus Brevis any pics on these guys or info?
