type armatus in the search. there is way too much to type...

There are TONS of threads about armatus, also check the stickies at top. You should find most of your information there. As for availability...they are very rare in the U.S. so Id say damn near impossible to get is AUS.

i'd say hard to get anywhere.
esp. in aus.
thy get to 3 feet in the wild, largest 2 feet in captivityfrom what ive heard.
much hardier than other species of payara.
aggressive and loves to hate silver fish.
grow fast unlike other payaras.
hard to get off live.
a few have done it.
temp about 27 degrees.
dunno how long it lives.
maybe a few years.
in the US theyre like 300 - 500 USD.
dont think theyre hard to look after other than the live feedings and killing tankmates thing.

http://www.petsolutions.com has them on the last page of their FW oddball selections they are $29.99, but they only ship to the US 48 mainland states. It also tells you a little bit about size, temp and diet.

If its only $29.99 it is almost guaranteed a scomb. Lot of places I've seen list vampire tetra as armatus regardless of actual sp. I dont know about how rare it is in aus. If you have a LF that stocks vamps once in a while, check up on their shipments. Once in a while one will sneak through as a scomb. Thats how a few of the people here got theirs. I got mine for $20 and i think vamptrev got a similar deal. Goodluck and hope you find one! They're awesome fish!

Thanks everyone yer it a fish i would like to get when i save up for a bigger tank:grinno: does anyone know how much a 150G tank cost?? or a 200?? and i will amke it fit.

a 200g will not fit it for long.
yes,29 dollars itll most definitly be a scomb.
here in singapore so far there has been NO armatus not even in shipments of scombs.
