Hypothetical Question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was asking myself the same question originally asked here when I read the thread on Lucifer yesterday. I don't think you can call anyone a "hobbist" who tortures their pets through neglect and ignorance. That's like calling serial killing a "hobby". I could tolerate some temporary overcrowding until a setup is complete, but every creature is entitled to clean water, whether they be in a cage, pen or aquarium. Unfortunately, many people who are the most adamant about being animal lovers, are the worst pet owners...

I'd take care of it myself. Talk to them, holler at them, stick my feet in the mud, whatever it took. Why call the cops on someone when you can handle it yourself? Not to mention it's like pulling teeth to get law enforcement to do anything about spousal abuse because the law has their hands tied. They're not going to do a single thing about a fish being kept in poor conditions. Not one single thing. They can't.

So true. Especially that last part. So many self-professed animal lovers should never have pets. TRUE animal lovers are realistic with themselves and don't collect animals as a bragging rights commodity.

What is this thread you speak of? I didn't see it.

It is really hard to hear one side of a story, hard to tell who is truthful.....yes?

The thread is call "Trying to save a Rhom" started at 6:36 yesterday. (Sorry, I don't know if theres's an easier technical way to show it. I had to scroll back through the postings.) It was on page 26 a minute ago.
I don't think handling it yourself works in most cases. Either they "get it" or they don't. Your helpful suggestions go right over their head. It's hard to tell someone they're a horrible pet owner, without offending them. If you're going to cause hard feelings anyway, better off to let the authorities handle it...

if you hypothetically did call the cops, what would you say? "id like to report somebody with too many fish in their tanks"? i'm pretty sure they would take it as a joke.

good thing you werent talking about banned species, cause that means id be calling the cops on all people i know with fish here in CA
