Happens to all of us. :D When I change my 180/100 gallon system that houses a lot of my big catfish I use a wide diameter hose in order to be able to drain enough water. (A python would take forever to do the 50% water change necessary to keep all those dirty catfish healthy.) Anyways, I got a nice big lungfull of water. Turns out you really just get the technique down quickly once you've learned the hard way. ;)

One of the funnier threads around here that's for sure.

I don't get why everyone is sucking on the gravel vac tubes. Just fill the tube up and put the actual gravel vac part under water and put the other end in the bucket....syphon starts and no sucking.

yep me to

I use a central heater pump for my 180 Gl.
It sucked air once and I couldn't get it running.
I up a massive tube and put it on my outlet tubing.
Nothing happened....
So I turned on the pump and suck with all power.
And inhaled more water then I cared for...
Last week I accidentally sucked up my dwarf-puffer during maintenance.
Luckily I wasn't sucking that tube at the time!
My puffer is doing fine, though.
